Miami Nights

Back in the beginning of December we went to Miami Beach for the ArtBasel contemporary art fair madness. Had a great time as usual...give me art everywhere, friends, artists, mohitos and warm weather and I'm in pretty good spirits yesireee.
Meggie and Mr.B and me, seth, nicola, ryan, janey and park and then the tons of familiar faces that you shouldn't be seeing all in one place so far from home. :)

I had some of my small works up with Morgan Lehman Gallery this year in the Flow Fair ..a hotel with red carpet, last door on the left. There were a crazy number of fairs this year and we decided to just roll with it and take our time and just see what we could...which meant we missed a LOT...but we also SAW a lot. As in, could actually take IN some art when it stopped us in our tracks, talk with artists and gallerists when it just happened naturally, etc. I don't regret our slow pace. Wish we could've stayed a week more and seen more fairs leisurely..but well, I'll take what I can get. it was great. Didn't bring a camera...that I do regret...but Nicola sent me these 2 so I'll share that.

Highlights of the trip:(I'll try to add links and such bit by bit):

-Scope: The Pilon espresso cart right outside. Best lil espresso I've ever had in my life. I've been dreaming about it since. Shirley Shorr's mesmerizing digital projection piece on sand. Tessa Farmer's insane hanging faeriedemon assemblages constructed entirely of plant and treeroots and insect carcasses (??!!) and the videos and stills at Curator's Office by Nicholas and Sheila Pye..especially the large photo of The Voracious.
-Aqua Fair was my favorite yet again. You just can't beat the set-up of open-air central courtyard with wine, beer and a jacuzzi-like pool to soak your feet in when taking breaks from the 2 floors of art-filled gallery/hotel rooms. Gushing over the insanely amazing polymer clay mini metropolis/carpet by Linda Ganjian at Eyewash and then getting to meet her and yap enthusiastically w/her about obsessive art and cities etc and also with the super friendly gallery owner, Natalie. Then surprise! A whole room dedicated to a SecondLife project?:)!! SUDO Island- art projects(!)..talked with the curator for a good long while...told him about my Gameland project and BetterWorldIsland...we've got to meetup, collaborate somehow.
-Meeting up with my old friend Barclay totally by surprise.
-Bridge Art Fair- talking with artist_____--- about his (awesome) diorama with views which you could manipulate by remote control....
-lunch with Orly, finally getting to talk...life, marriage, galleries, etc..
-talking with a stranger...artist/writer Eldon Garnet randomly on a shuttlebus....about art and politics..bookmarking to continue conversing
-discovering huge snails on the sides of buildings
-dancing because I neeeed it
