I was thinking that pushing for a smaller Federal government is one prong of a many pronged strategy that's currently required for liberals.
Other prongs include: - exposing the Republican platform (it's rather extremist) - stop fielding presidential candidates from MA - making the liberal states and localities more so while simultaneously building moderate coalitions nationally.
This is, in fact, purple turf. Reduce the size of the federal government. Increase my taxes at the state and local level, where I have more control over how the money gets spent (with better insight and auditability, and personal accountability with local figures), and decrease them federally.
And definitely get the federal government out of the business out of legislating negative rights.
