Children: None
Family History: Ava's father is from Ireland; her mother's from Trinidad. They met during their engineering fellowships at MIT and ended up settling in Boston and having Ava, trying to raise her with an appreciation and knowledge of both their cultures. She was very sheltered -- too sheltered -- growing up, and under a lot of pressure to be as academic as her parents. She loves them, but when it came time to look for graduate schools and then jobs, she decided she wanted to live further away from where she grew up, much as it scared her.
Health & Psychology
Physical Health: Good; occasionally she forgets to eat when she's busy or stressed, but it's not a problem.
Extrovert/Introvert: Introvert
Phobias/Fears: Having to run back home to Boston; not being able to hack it on her own. The months after grad school while she was still trying to find a job placement were some of the scariest she's had.
Mental Health: Stable--if shy and a bit awkward, socially.
Any Disabilities/Handicaps: None.
Personality
Goals/Dreams: Professionally, she'd love to run a research facility and publish important work. Personally, she wants to get out there more and enjoy life.
Quirks/Habits: Doodling. Dancing when she's alone, or thinks she is.
Likes: HBO, books, ice cream, politics, music, science fiction, rain when the sun is shining, socks
Dislikes: mayonnaise, horror movies, clowns, crowds
Hobbies: Reading, cooking, riding her bike. She's also been working on a record collection since she was 17.
First Impression: A neat, quiet girl with a shy smile who maybe needs to loosen up a bit.
Philosophy of Life: Don't forget to live.
Phrases they use often: "Can you tell I'm not from around here?" "Actually..." (more tbd)
Romantic/ Sexual
Marital Status: Single
Sexual Preference: Gay. Very gay. It took her forever to realize it.
Ever had sex: She's had... encounters. Two of them. One fumbling incident with a boy in high school that she's positive doesn't count as sex and that she never, ever wants to revisit. The other with her roommate, Jess, a year ago when she was at GW -- that one definitely counts. It was every bit as fumbling, but she doesn't mind revisiting that one at all. She'd hoped they might have had a relationship from there, but Jess freaked out/decided she couldn't handle it. Pretty soon afterward, their relationship got too awkward and Jess moved out. It's something Ava still feels horrible about, and probably contributes to her hesitance to explore anything romantic with a woman since.
Believe in casual sex: She doesn't think it's for her, but sometimes she wonders if it's easier than actual relationships, which tend to elude her. She actually craves intimacy, she just has trouble relaxing and opening herself up to it.
Turn ons: soft skin, conversation, intelligence, collarbones, eye contact, short hair, nice hands, ties
Turn offs: ignorance, lots of makeup
Past Relationships: She hasn't ever been in a real relationship. Work and her studies have kept her really busy (which is as convenient as it is true).
Current Relationship: None.
General: Ava is trying to get out there more, and there's a lot that she's still discovering about herself -- both romantically and otherwise.
