The first time Heechul kissed him, Han Geng was four. That was essentially how they met and became best friends in kindergarten. Back then he had no idea what a kiss really was exactly, only knowing that his mommy (or any of her girlfriends, for that matter) liked to do that whenever she was pleased with him. He had the feeling that boys were not supposed to kiss each other, but then he figured that Heechul looked enough like a girl that an exception could be made. He forgot about the kiss a week later.

The second time it happened, Han Geng was ten and they were playing tag in the school field. Heechul was it and Han Geng, always the nice guy, deliberately slowed down for him. A pair of soft lips touched his a moment later. He was confused for a second, but then Heechul stuck his tongue out and shouted a nice loud you’re it! before sprinting off the other direction. This brought him back into game mode, kiss pushed to the back of his mind as he ran after the cackling redhead as fast as his legs could take him.

The third time Han Geng was kissed, he was eighteen. It was graduation day and they had just received their diplomas. He felt it after it happened. It was just a peck-a short and mild contact between loose skin-but somehow it made the Chinese boy freeze both inside and out. Heechul noticed his silence and asked what was wrong, but he just walked the other direction and ignored him for the rest of the night (as well as the whole summer). He spontaneously decided to attend university in China, his hometown, despite the fact that Heechul and he had already made a pact earlier on to attend Seoul University together, and got on the plane with bright tear-infested eyes.

By the fourth time they kissed, Han Geng was already twenty-two and held a Bachelor’s degree. He had a perfectly boring time in university hanging out with a Starcraft maniac and his fashionista boyfriend for four years, but it got him a degree so he decided that it was worth it. He returned to Korea with the intention of finding a job, but the first interview he attended brought him face to face with a certain redhead. After (re)-introducing themselves, it became a regular question and answer session with the occasional encouraging comment. That is, until Heechul gave him a question that he just could not answer: Why did you leave Korea for university? If it was any other interviewer, Han Geng would have said something along the lines of broadening his horizons and exploring what life outside was like, but this was Heechul, and instead of giving him a winning answer, he leaned over and planted a slow kiss on the lips he missed so much.

They kissed on their wedding day, but by then they had already lost count. Han Geng was twenty-eight. And although he messed up his vows several times in nervousness (I promise to make out-I mean make up and uh-”), although the cake made his stomach want to explode from sugar (and trans fat, for that matter), and although he had to watch as his beautiful groom pranced around with other men on the dance floor for the whole night (he wasn't jealous, of course not!), he knew that when he was old and wrinkly and on the brink of death, he would look back and say that it was the happiest day of his life.

And in the end, that's really all that matters.
