So I go to make dinner tonight, and I decide upon one of my delectable single-serving microwavable cups of Macaroni & Cheese. I like 'em not only because they're reasonably delicious but also because they're one of the simplest meals to prepare: tear off the lid, remove the packet of cheesy powder, pour in some tap water, pop in the microwave for a few minutes, and stir in the cheesy powder. Voila, dinner served.
So anyways, I go to make dinner. I tear off the lid, remove the cheesy powder packet, pop in the microwave for a few minutes, and go to watch some TV while I wait.
...whoops. Missed a step.
After a couple minutes I notice a distinctly horrible smell of burning. Sure enough, smoke was billowing from my microwave. Shut it off and opened the windows. Took me a few moments to realize what I had done wrong. Suffice to say, the blackened remains were distinctly unappetizing, and I felt compelled to dine out for the night, as much to give my apartment time to air out as to satiate my hunger.
Surprisingly, the smoke alarm did not sound. I'm not sure if I should feel relieved or worried about that.
Well, I suppose at least it's a more eventful way to end the year than I usually experience. So I've got that going for me.
