Some quick and dirty movie reviews

I've managed to see quite a few movies this past month, particularly this week, so I may as well pass along my thoughts:

I Am Legend
I understand this deviates from the book considerably, but the movie certainly stands well on its own. Suspenseful and sorrowful. Also, it's always nice when someone remembers Will Smith can actually act instead of just ( Read more... )

Sweeny Todd is just about closer to an opera than a musical, with most of the incidental dialog sung as well. In fact, I've seen modern operas done like this (while classical ones have no talking at all). Anyway, it's pretty great. And the bloody bits are mostly telegraphed pretty well, so even the squeamish might be able to get through it with well-timed eye covering.

I enjoyed Golden Compass, but it probably helped a lot that I *haven't* read the books yet. I should get around to them some day. I could tell that, especially in the first half, they were having to cram together a lot of necessary scenes right quick, though.

Ahoy, random person I found browsing schools (Case Western). Might I steal a couple of your icons?

Also, I Am Legend, what the HELL? Are you kidding? Sure, Will Smith acting...but the thing had no plot. And the whole religion reference...ech. Eeeecchhhhh... They paid you to give it a good review, didn't they? Don't be ashamed.

Now I can't remotely trust your other reviews. Although The Golden Compass WAS all about the bears... Blah blah plot, blah blah COOL POLAR BEARS, blah blah BEARS, blah blah stupid ending. That's how THAT movie went...

I like the "takes a facehugger to the face" bit, though. As opposed to, say, the kidney. "That's an old war wound, sonny; I took a facehugger to the kidney!" I have to go watch that movie now.
