While arycogre yearns for that beastly Alienware laptop, I'm contemplating a Fujitsu Lifebook P7230.

Ultraportable. Good battery life. Low performance, sure, but should be good enough for my purposes: about the most demanding thing I'd use it for is playing a DVD.

Slightly wary about Windows Vista though, since I haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. It looks like IE7 is a preview for how things have been moved around in the interface, and I've gotta say I'm not too thrilled with how IE7 does it. I'm wondering: to what degree can I customize it to be like Windows 95/98/2000? In particular:
1. The two-paneled default start menu for Windows XP/2003 bugs me, so I always set it to classic mode on any machine I work with. Is it still possible in Vista?
2. Looks like they've made some changes to the file explorer. Can I still restrict things to a navigation panel on the left and files panel on the right? Can I still get my beloved 'Details' view?
3. Can I turn off that Sidebar altogether?
