The Swing of Things

I really haven't used my LJ in a while. And I definitely have not used it publicly in ages. I've thought about moving to another blog site, and I still might, as LJ's ads are annoying and I don't want to have to pay for a subscription.

Going on's as of late...

I've finally gotten onto the e-book bandwagon. Granted, I'm still not thoroughly impressed with the selection of books that I would be willing to buy again, this time in the e-book format, but it's a start to what I'm doing. I actually have been managing to read more with the e-books. I'm using the Barnes & Noble eReader for the iPod touch (free app). I have a couple of the free e-books for the Amazon.com Kindle free app for iPod, however I do not like the way that the app reads compared to the B&N eReader, so I've been getting my fix from B&N. Go figure.

So far what I have loaded up...it's not a large selection, however it is something I'm working on...

American Gods - Neil Gaiman (I always start reading this one but I usually put it down and forget about it...so I've yet to finish reading this one...I know, shame on me!)

Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn - Stephanie Meyer (Finished...and a surprisingly good read. Sure, not typically what one thinks about when thinking of vampires and their various myths, however, it's just another version in the vast mythos of vampirism)

Dragon Prince, Star Scroll, Sunrunner's Fire - Melanie Rawn (I've read these a long time ago and have been wanting to re-read them. I wish they had the second trilogy in e-book format)

The Dragonbone Chair - Tad Williams (I started to read this when I was back in high school, but for some strange reason, whether it be school work, art, other books, or having to return it to the library on numerous occasions, I never got around to finishing this one)

Dragons of the Hourglass Mage - Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (Dragonlance, even though extremely sparse in being published yet in e-books, is fucking awesome. This, from my understanding, is a further look into the events covered by the original Chronicles trilogy. It also features Raistlin. Enough said)

The Eye of the Storm - Robert Jordan (Over the past 8 years, I've been told over and over and over to read the Wheel of Time series. I've tried but again, the forces beyond have made me put down the book. I've never gotten more than a few pages into it. But, surely in this handy format, I might actually manage to not just read this one but all of the Wheel of Time series)

The Eyes of the Dragon - Stephen King (I've read most of this back in high school. I don't know why I didn't finish it. Or if I did finish it, I don't remember doing so. I remember having finished reading and even re-reading The Thief of Always by Clive Barker...but the assholes don't have that one in e-book format yet either)

Storm Front, Fool Moon, Grave Peril (Dresden Files) - Jim Butcher (I'm almost finished with Storm Front...really good read so far. Got the next two to keep me company on my days away from home)

The Lord of Castle Black, Sethra Lavode - Steven Brust (I am in the middle of reading the Lord of Castle Black. I have rarely found Sethra Lavode physically in a bookstore, which follows LOCB. So now I'm gonna finish that fucking book and start SL...)

Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert A. Heinlein (I remember getting most of the way through this one. I don't remember finishing it. I'm going to buy Red Planet later to re-read. They don't have Citizen of the Galaxy though which was a good read too)

For years, I've had issues with tendinitis in my right ankle. This is due to an ankle sprain I had over 11 years ago. I've recently (in the past few years) have been developing patellofemoral syndrome in my right knee. Some days, my right leg declares anarchy from the hip down and causes me all sorts of assorted aches and pain. I've also had issues with nocturnal cramping of my right calf muscle that is so painful it wakes me up and I always want to scream from the pain. Well, yesterday, my leg starts hurting somewhere in my upper thigh. My husband actually starts looking at my leg and starts poking around. When he starts pressing on my calf muscle (which I have not had a nocturnal cramp in at least a month, possibly two), my leg starts hurting like unholy hell. After further massaging, I wanted to cry. I kept jerking about and crying out loud. I really wanted something to bite down on. But what it sounds like to me is that because of the cramping that I've had in my leg before and (admittedly...) not exercising enough and never getting that muscle really massaged before, there's a lot of latent tension built up there which only causes further pain up and down my leg. I'm on ordered water only (sigh...and during my last days of being able to drink for a while) for 4 days and after that only having very minimal other drinks. My goal is to at least be able to ride the bike for 9-10 days out of the 10-11 days that I will be away from home due to work. Then I'm rewarding myself with getting a massage, especially to release any tensions that build up due to exercise. But hopefully this will all benefit me by making that muscle mass start to loosen back up some (and not be cramped). It's the small shit like this that makes me dislike getting older.

Children. I have the non-human kind. And I will continue to choose to have that kind for as long as I can manage. I've been blessed by Bast with my 5 year old kitty girl and my 11 month old kitty boy. Both of which I'm happy to say are rescues, Humane Society and SPCA respectively. Today, while out and about, my husband sees a Husky puppy. So he calls me to come out to meet said little bastard. Well, he had originally called me when he was still interacting with the first one. This puppy, while having a nice sable Husky markings, was way too hyper and rambunctious and destructive. His brother on the other hand was there, who is a classic black and white marked husky. It was the second I got to interact with because by the time I got to the pet store, my husband decided to look at the second puppy. Admittedly, the little bastard is cute. He's only 2.5 months old so far and is yet to have any training or being house broken. Little bastard is still shy and not sure what to think of the world. But my husband really wanted the little fucker so I caved. Hunter, the 5 year old, doesn't care for him, but she's smart enough to be cute, tiny and cat like to be up and out of the way of puppy. Phantom, the 11 month old however is not so bright. Phantom has already been played with and kind of used as a chew toy by puppy. I would not be surprised if Phantom and the puppy end up as friends. But being in a new place with new people has caused puppy to have a couple of accidents already. I'm just really hoping that my husband stays on top of his training. He's also thinking of training him using Russian commands, since he is a pedigree Siberian Husky. Which sucks for me, not knowing any Russian.... But he is awfully cute with his ice blue eyes.

I really need to remember when I get back home to go out to get my hair cut again. I've gone too long between hair cuts so it's losing some of it's shape. And maybe I'll stop feeling quite as nasty and sweaty at work.
