Left for Monterey/Carmel on Saturday morning. It's only about an hour from where I'm staying, and the drive was pretty neat.
First we went to Monterey and walked around the Wharf. It wasn't all that great, lots of fish stands and tourist shops. Met some cool Brits at a coffee shop then walked the Historic Monterey Walk and had lunch at this really cheap restaurant (it was pretty groos).
We stayed in this beautiful Victorian mansion B&B located halfway between Monterey and Carmel. I had the best room out of all of us! (
My room is the picture on the bottom of the page. The wall paper was a little scary but they're going for this doll house look but It was huge and had the only private balcony in the whole place, so I spent most of the early evening and my morning sitting outside on the bench swing reading my book and drinking the complimentary Nappa Valley wine (sept in the morning I was drinking giant cups of coffee... )!!! Then we went to this little pizza bistro up the street and drank more wine, then came back home and had some more wine. Then I collapsed on my king size bed and fell alseep. Each room had this teddy bear on the bed (there's a story about the sisters that used to live in the inn and teddybears...iduno) and apparently they did a turndown service while we were out at dinner, like taking the decor pillows off the bed, pulling the blinds down, and putting a long stemmed rose and the teddy bear on the pillow. All very nice little touches... touches I WOULD have noticed if I wasn't so drunk! As it were I woke up at 2am with the rose practically in my mouth and the teddybear under my back thinking 'what the FUCK is that!!' before throwing both to the ground and falling back asleep. THEN I woke up at 5am soooo thirsty I thought I was gunna die, so I booked it to the bathroom for water, then turned around to walk back to bed forgetting the little 24inch TV was placed right next to the bathroom door and the next thing I knew the TV and the antique table it was sitting on were crashing to the floor. I stood there for a about two seconds, scared outa my wits, then picked the thing up (almost breaking my back) putting it back on the table, then ran across the room and jumped under the covers pretending nothing happened. It wasn't broken... I just didn't want to be blamed for waking up the entire house at 5am! Ahhhhh welll...
So then today we spent the day in Carmel, which I was called Kinkade County... the place had two Kinkade galleries within a four block radius! What's with that! Didn't he do one painting of the place? Other than that the place was very pretty if not a little excessive. Half our party went to Easter Mass at the Carmel Misson Church (built in 1771) and the rest of us walked on the beach and watched the surfers. Then we all went for lunch at this poshy Italian restaurant and stuffed ourselves silly! It was soooo delicious! 17-Mile drive was next, against my wishes. Basically it's what it sounds like, but you have to pay $9 toll to enter the road, then once your on there the fun really begins! Yeah... that was pure sarcasm! Basically you drive along the water and look at huge houses and prissy golf courses, then you turn inland and look at more big houses and golf courses, then some pretty trees with prissy people jogging along perfectly paved paths then more of the first. All for the low low price of $9! Woo! *cough* I wasn't too into it. I would have rather sat and watched the surfers some more... oh well.
I have no idea what I'm doing this week. Well I do know WHAT I'm going to do, but I don't know WHEN. I'm going to Santa Cruz to go shopping for Frida Kahlo stuff... then San Fran again to get Henna done at Haight Ashbury... other than that I'm planning on reading like a maniac and possibly sketching...
