Zac Efron as Light Yagami?

Rumor has it that Zac Efron is going to play Light Yagami in the Hollywoodified version of Death Note. First of all, is there really going to be an American version of Death Note?! Now that I'd like to see! (the entry, I mean, not the apalling casting)

I'm a bit meh when it comes to Zac as Light. I think he could pull it off, if he takes it seriously (which, again, I think he could). My only worry is that it's Warner Bros. that's got the rights, and I doubt they could realise intensity if it slapped them across the face with a dead fish. :S

'17 Again' just came out, so I'm a bit glad that Efron is branching out a little from the musicals. Still, I don't know... I'd really much rather Hollywood doesn't do a movie of it. Look at what they did to Dragon Ball! (I watched a bit of the series when I was younger) To quote a friend: "how can you make Goku American?! Go-ku... What American kid has that kind of name?!" Gah. I couldn't even bear to watch the trailer.
