I am stuck forever in Vermilion City. I may die here. This old man has so many regrets... I can't go back because the way is blocked by a jungle, can't go east because of some huge beached whale on the dock, can't go west because I can't swim, all roads are blocked. I'd at least get the badge, but that seems impossible, too. My partner is an impossible brat and I'm stuck in Vermilion City. ...Well, really I should give you some background if you're gonna give me any sympathy. My name is Kotetsu T. Kaburagi and I'm the hero of this story. Don't listen to Bunny. The hero is me.

You see, I live in Pallet Town with my cabbage-loving old Mother and my cute daughter, Kaede~ She is such a sweet maple~ ...even if she doesn't think her dad is cool. And I am. She just prefers to hang around in Doc Saito's lab with my colleague, Bunny. Well,... Saito would agree with the name, but Bunny might yell, so I'll say that his 'real' name is Barnaby Brooks Jr. But it's too much name for a brat like Bunny, and Bunny is Bunny. So there.

Anyway, Bunny and I work in research with Saito. We're lab aids and experimental scientists working with new technology. It's all very cool. Trust me~ So when Doc made a cool new piece of tech, Bunny decided to help right away- he's a bit of a tech freak- and little Kaede said that her dad shouldn't be 'lazy' in the lab and at home, so I was kicked out to be partners with the brat.
You should know that Doc Saito is one of the top researchers of the weird animals that live around here. Well, animals used to be normal until around forty years ago when some Next chemical caused most animals and insects and even some plants and inanimate objects to change. Now these Next creatures are called pokemon. The name is mostly because thanks to Saito's most famous invention, a neat ball that seems to do nothing at times, the pokemon can be shrunk and go in a pocket. Brats like Bunny like to shorten things and pocket monsters seemed too long, I guess. Now, people catch and keep pokemon in these neat balls and have battles and fights with their teams of six. I'm not quite sure why there's a legal limit, but... well, I've met the court of pokemon rights and affairs judge, so I'm not planning on braking the rule. The battles always seemed a bit like dog fights to me, anyway. I mean, I'd take super good care of a huge metal snake. Wouldn't you!? Yeah. No death-wish here.
Well, turns out, some... okay, most pokemon 'evolve' or mutate at intervals and get new forms, size, abilities and even names. There are so many varieties, and the data on one can change so much because of evolution that there's a need for a database for researchers and trainers. The cool new tech Doc made is called a pokedex and he needs to have us go around and do data entry on the different pokemon we find. Well, it seems like something that Kaede may think is cool and heroic, so I'm not really complaining. Even if I have to work with Little Bunny.
The other lab aids are in a betting pool for stupid things like when we kill each other, who gets the most 'points' for catching the most pokemon and getting the most data or even who gets the most badges from things called 'pokemon gyms.' I have p5 on the end of April for me killing Bunny and p25 riding on a bet with Toni that I beat the Elite Four before Bunny. Toni's gonna be so ticked when I win.
We got to use two pokemon from the lab for the job and I just knew Bunny would choose the dragon looking one. It just seems like his thing. Well, he actually said 'Never!' Wow. I wonder if he doesn't like fire types for some reason... I took the cute turtle and Bunny said it looked 'Stupid like a goofy old man', so I named it 'Leather' because if anything is stupid, it's Bunny's stupid leather coat. I think it really bugged him because he chose the pokemon that Leather's weak to- a grass type frog-like pokemon. Well, he didn't even give it a nickname! Bunny is very uncute.

In the beginning, we had to walk through lots of grass and stuff and Bunny was a big whiny crybaby about grass and dirt messing up his 'real leather', but another lab aid found us and gave us some sweet running shoes. He said they'd be useful again and again. (Bunny laughed at Keith's joke, but it's not really funny, is it? For some reason, I don't like it when Bunny works with Keith.) I think Bunny's do something for... good luck? Yeah. I'm not sure what they can do, but if it stops the whining, I like them. I'm fairly certain mine are just normal. I've tried everything, but I haven't found special features. Oh well.

The first entry I made in the pokedex didn't get me any points because Bunny got the data before me, but I nicknamed it anyway. Its a little bird that seems to really like sitting on Bunny's shoulders and in his bird nest of hair, and he seems a lot like air-head Keith to me, so I named him 'Sky.' The thing is, he's my best pokemon so I can't really be upset at him and it feels weird to praise Sky. I'll try to name other pokemon with more thought.

In the first town we came to Bunny just had to have tea with his 'Uncle' who's the gym leader. Apparently, Bunny's set to take over the gym when his uncle retires. Honestly, the guy kinda gives me the willies. I couldn't even drink my tea when we were there. I just can't imagine the Brat being the gym leader of Viridian. The gym just seems so... un-Bunny... The town is also close to Victory Road where top trainers can go and challenge the Elite Four. Bunny tried to throw his name around and get onto Victory Road, but the names Brooks, Viridian Gym, and Doctor Saito didn't even help him. Heh~ He has to beat gyms like the rest of us mortals.
We both beat the first gym at the same time, so we kind of tied for betting points, but the next three pokemon I caught were nice because I got some points. Bunny caught a butterfly, so I teased him, but it's really strong and he told me that I can talk when I can beat him. I noticed that he caught a rock next, though. I suppose I really shouldn't tease him; his butterfly is a lot more like Bunny than his rock. Or... maybe both are like him? Whatever. I got points for a pink thing, a bat and a mushroom. I couldn't think of a good name for a fluffy pink boy moon fairy with curly hair, (Bunny vetoed "Barnaby the Third" Partypooper.) so I just named him Oscar after my favorite hotdog. Naming is hard.

I named the bat 'Gami' for the little nervous lab tech that follows Keith around and plays with Kaede and the mushroom is 'Taki' for mushroom. Yeah, I was getting tired and a little hungry. Sue me. Wait. Don't.

It took us forever to get out of that long cave path and while we were doing that, I got in a fight with these guys who were talking about 'Ouroboros', whatever that is, but Bunny freaked out and even jumped in my fights. He was yelling at them for 'information' even after they passed out. It was really confusing and a little scary because I never saw Bunny that upset before and I had to call an ambulance and drag Bunny away from them and them from the cave. Huge pain in the butt. I'm too old for this.
On the other side of the mountain was the second gym we challenged and we beat it easy; Bunny sweeped the poor girl with his frogplantbulbsomething and I was able to use Taki and Sky. Because Bunny won first, he ran ahead to Saito's colleague's house that is on the cape. The brat got an eevee! How does that even happen!? He's a cheater, that's how. Somehow Bunny smooth talked Bill into giving him a restricted and rare species and I'm gonna find out what he did. Sheesh. Well, I told him that at least it looks like a bunny, so it fits. I've been calling the eevee 'Bunny-chan' and now it answers to the name and likes me more~ Bunny-chan rides on my shoulders and in my vest and likes to sleep with me and even if Sky likes Barnaby more, he got a lot bigger and Bunny doesn't think it's so cute anymore. Win-win for me~ Bunny-chan is very cute.
In the city there is a bike shop. There was a really nice bike that I wanted that came in a lot of different colors (the green is best), but it costs far far farrr too much. I'd have to win every battle for a decade to afford it. Don't you know, Bunny walked in and got the red one. He put it on his uncle's account! I couldn't believe it! Well, he said that he'd buy the collapsable sidecar attachment for it so I could ride with him, but I just got an old used bike instead. There's no way I'm riding in Bunny's sidecar.

When we were riding to the next town, a cute cat ran out in front of my bike (I named my bike The Wild Tiger. I'm not telling Bunny. He'd tell me its a stupid name. I like it, so I don't care. His helmet is pink and has rabbit ears, so I don't want to hear about my bike.) and I caught her! My first girl! I named her after my Kaede and 'Maple' is really cute and very useful~ She finds things and money and she gets along well with Bunny-chan and they run next to me and Bunny~

We all got to Vermilion City and got cool rods, I caught a little mole that I named after Toni in a moment of irony,

and we got to snoop around on the cruise ship that was docked because the captain was sick. Bunny didn't seem sympathetic to the captain, but I'm kind of an old man and I know what it feels like to be seasick, so I couldn't just leave him to his problem. When he felt better he gave me a gift, which I said was too kind and I didn't need anything, but he insisted, and I think that's kind of like points. I still haven't opened it yet because Bunny was pulling me out so we could go to the third gym. When the ship left, we had a bit of a problem: the gym was so overgrown we couldn't find a way in. Bunny's checking around, but no one seems to want to help. You'd think a leutenant would keep his yard tidier...

So you see my problem. We're stuck in Vermilion City and I can't figure out what to do. Well, we're staying at a B&B tonight, so I guess we'll try again in the morning. Hopefully something comes to me by then. Bunny-chan and Maple are sleeping on my lap and Bunny's telling me to turn out the light and come to bed, so I'll update later.
Until then: Kotetsu- Over and Out~

dork, wha-? shut up stacye!, don't hit me, pokemon, fics, t&b
