I used to leave a blank tape in my deck player while listening to the radio and when the DJ announces the upcoming song and it happens to be my favorite, you know that finger is poised over the Rec/Play buttons. I still have them - I still listen to them.
I love mixtapes. I miss mixtapes. Cassette tapes are what I miss and much like the slow comeback of the LP (you guys hear music from vinyls? It's a personal preference. Gritty and a lot more natural than our digital now...), I anticipate that the deck tapes will make a comeback - when the time is right. Not that I don't appreciate iPods or other mp3 players: they make storing music easier.
Chasing Pavements by
Adéle It's got this mellow, soulful energy groove to it. I want to say something cliché about being on the road and the song's "pavements" word, but it's not about that. Whenever I bump this in my car on my drives, I think of just being able to get away from everything for a while and how I will feel if I just stayed gone. But in the end, it makes me realize that I will just be a quitter if I didn't face my problems head on. So far, so good.
Gravity by
Vienna Teng Always the lowkey voice. I don't think it's appropriate more than it is actually a personal preference. It's one of my favorite songs to sing to and when I'm told that slow songs put drivers to sleep, I can relate - but they should try singing along with them. It has an adverse effect; along w/ chewing gum.
Somewhere Only We Know by
Keane I have no idea why... I used to not like this song, but after listening to it for a while on repeat, I finally understood what he was trying to say. The beat took a while to appreciate, but once I was able to it actually stuck! I really like this song - an oldie but a goodie, but NOTHING... NOTHING will take me away from my mellow reggae beats (because Bob Marley is always on a mix tape somehow), classical music, acoustics, smooth R&B, and a dash of Maroon 5 and hip-hop for the upbeat effect. Three-hour drives home is no joke.
