I went home from work sick today. Between the cold, the mini-migrane and the backache/cramps that WEREN'T responding to ibuprophin, I just couldn't deal. Mostly the backache, though.
Five hours of sleep later, my cold is mitigated, the migrane ebbed, and the backache/cramps are much improved. But everything I was supposed to do this evening involved being OUT in the world, and if I went home sick, I don't want to go out and spread my germs everywhere! So I'm at a bit of an impasse as to what to do.
In other news, I asked for more dance in my life and seem to have gotten it :)
A'dham (in this case meaning: A'dham, Tiamet and Pheonix Fire Arts) is gearing up for a performance at the
Garlic and Arts festival in Orange this Saturday. We'll be performing around 4:30, admission is 4$, I think. Dar Williams is playing there too, but on Sunday. So I've been at rehersals with them Thursday, Friday and yesterday. And tomorrow. I was also supposed to reherse with them on Sunday, but cancelled out because I felt like I was neglecting Pax and it was two HOURS of driving, and I felt pretty comfortable with the act.. er, until I realized that I didn't know the last song yesterday! Ah well.. we've got a few more days, right? And it's amazing what a Tribal Improv troupe that's been working together can do!
After cancelling on Sunday, I got a call from
kiten asking that I show up to the PURE march that I'd said I couldn't make. I guess a few people cancelled last minute.. so I ended up throwing a costume together, making & eating lunch, and heading out in, oh, an hour. To do a choreography that I'd last THOUGHT OF months ago.
We ran through the choreo a few times and were OFF! It all came back to me, and I was SOOO glad to have
kiten as my group leader, because her moves are soooo crisp and between that and all those years of club-dancing with her, I could follow her quite easily! She has a YouTube video of us in her latest post of all of us, if you're curious.
It was a little weird dancing through Hartford.. but really appropriate to the PURE goals. I was really feeling the sacred mask thing, and while we got alot of inappropriate comments, I still feel like we did what we came to do brighten people's day in a peaceful way.. and it was bigger (& safer) than any of us could have accomplished on our own. I used to believe strongly that groups could do that, but lately I've really been feeling how much the weight of non-telepathic communication can bring any group down.
During last Thurday's class, the Franklin County Parade was on! I was actually in Greenfield for the last one, and I remember walking past the (old) Dancing Dragon studio door and thinking "THAT is where I'll take classes some day!". And here it is, a year later, and I've not only been taking classes again (has it only been since November?!?!) but I've been performing, too. My first EVER bellydance performance was in December, and a short 9 months later, I feel like I can, in fact, put on a decent performance in almost no time! All of a sudden, I'm a Bellydancer!
We'll also be performing at a benefit for the Franklin County Medical Center on the 30th. more details as I get them ;)
Crazy. Good, but crazy.
