dark desires.

The rain pounded against the skylight; the dull humming it created was a fitting backdrop for my tumultuous thoughts. He was always trying to fix things, things he had no business trying to fix. I picked up my coat and pulled on my rain boots. It was some ungodly hour of the morning, storming like no tomorrow, but I needed to clear my head. I grabbed my keys and locked the door behind me.
The wind whipped past me, and raindrops beat against my skin. My hair was in my mouth, droplets of water in my eyes. My phone buzzed in my pocket; it was a text from him. '3:33 make a wish,' it read.
I hesitated, unwilling to talk to him. Eventually my perverse desire to hurt him won out, and I flipped open my phone and typed back, 'I have nothing to wish for tonight,' knowing it would cut him like a knife. I paused for a moment, finger on the 'send' button. I hit it, shoving my phone back in my pocket, and continued walking. My jeans were soaked through and chafed unpleasantly against the insides of my thighs, but my phone didn't buzz again.
