Ballet?

I have some news. I'm about to have the best weekend of my entire life. That's all.

no, but seriously, I'm so jazzed. Its my last full weekend in Nancy, and I'm determined to make the best of it. Firstly, Evelyne invited me to go to the 'ballet' last night with her, which I did. She had a free ticket for an accompanier for her daughter (who is handicapped) so I sat with Lucille, the most shy, adorable, little girl I"ve ever seen- though she apparently can't understand a single word I say. Anyway-- I was pretty jazzed, I like the ballet- and haven't been to one in forever. It was, however/helas, not a ballet. I realized this when a girl came on the stage and swung her arms around in circles for about fifteen minutes in time to her breathing. It was... NOT was I was expecting, to say the least! haha, but after that it got a lot better- there was one girl who did a piece next that was pretty cool- a jazzy, Cajun type of piece. But after the intermission there was something really interesting. They set up these huge strings in the front and the back as well, which someone came out and played with a violin bow! They totally made their own music for the piece with this enormous violin! That was maybe the coolest part- the dancing was very interesting, but it got a little long -- by which I mean, a lot long. An hour and fifteen minutes long. .... but I was really impressed. I don't remember ever really seeing a whole modern dance piece before. They were just so graceful- it was amazing. Anyway-- yeah. so that was the 'ballet'.

Also... there is a carnival in town right now! I'm so happy! I looooove carnivals. Its going to be awesome. But, I'm a little confused because they have been setting it up for two whole days and it is still not done! What is that!?? I was talking to Pamela about it yesterday- it really doesn't even look halfway done after two days (they arrived thursday morning early, and by late friday afternoon- not halfway done) and we decided that you can't really expect much else from a country that starts work at 9 takes a two hour lunch from 12- 2 and then finishes usually at six. Nothing is open after 7 pm- except one little market by the train station, and nothing is open on sundays. So, yeah- +2days to set up a little rinkydink carnival is probably normal. Ha, but whatever, it should be open for today-- and I will be there!!!!

My friend Jessie was supposed to be coming this weekend, but she is sick. Which is a shame since I was really planning on having the best weekend ever with HER, but its ok, I can still do it with the basement gang. Tomorrow we are going to the Vosges, these mountains near here to hike and have a picnic. I'm pretty jazzed.
