ahh!

I totally made besties with Jana today!  We are now offically friends!   ah, finally-- its only been four months that i've been trying to hang out with her-- but she doesn't like to do things with other peole really-- a loner, kind of like myself these days.  But today I saw here while I was cleaning the kitchen and she said hi-- then later, totally came to my room and started just talking to me-- about nothing in particular-- and I was kind of confused but super happy-- and then we started to play cards (my favorite activity), and had some wine---- then she asked me to go to mcdonalds for a salad with her-- it was practically a date, i would say.! hahah, but really, it was fun, and I''m glad we're friends now.

OK-- so-- just so that I dont forget for forever, I"m going to try to write a little bit bout New Years.   I went to London--- which was cool.  I've been before, but actually there was still a lot of thing that I hadn't done, so it was interesting too.  I met Sophia there and we stayed with her friend from graduate school and his parents, who live in the southern part of London- and they have the awesomest house ever!  It is four stories tall, and has the coolest conservatory. The whole family is vegetarian so I learned some really interesting recipes from them too.  So, Sam, Sophia and I (and Sam's friend Dave- who was there most of hte time) had a goal of only doing things that were free.  And we succeeded remarkably!  I think the only things we paid for the entire time we were there was transportation-- and The Tower of London- which was well worth the 15 pounds I paid for it.  we spend hours inside the tower grounds and had  a great tour-- saw lots of things that were super interesting and all that jazz.  We also visited a lot of the museums-- acutally just three- The Tate Modern-- that was nice, but we didn't stay long becuase it was after a long day of walking everywhere, The Natural History Museum (awesome display about dinosaurs), and the Science Museum, which was actually really cool.  One day was also spent in the hospital (again!!!) because sohpia had her throat thing again! :( and that was ok becuase we were totally wiped anyway- so we sat in the waiting room for awhile.  and they cleared it all up, obvi.   Sam's Dad is a violinist and pretty cool.  He works at the Royal Opera House as first violin- and gave us an awesome tour- we saw the stage and all the insides and sets and stuff.  And his mom is a midwife-- a francophile like myself- and she totally speaks  only french to her grandson!  How cool is that! ? Super cool, I"im going to say.

Hmmm quoi d'autre?   new years eve-- was interesting.   We started at the house doing random things, took the last train into the city-- to Trafalgar Square and tried to watch the fireworks.  We couldnt really see them though, and there was a huge screen up for them to be projected onto- but that broke, along with the countdown about thirty seconds to midnight.  So that was a little anticlimactic.  haha.  at what we thought might be midnight (judging from other people's shouting and excitement) some people of my group-- I'm not going to say who, though rest assured , it wasn't me-- decided to go skinny dipping in the Trafalgar Square fountain.  However, this was a little crazy thinking becuase earlier that day we had seen the police draining the fountain and putting up barriers (apparently this is a rite of passage-skinny dipping in the fountain.  and so these persons,  arriving naked at the barriers, were stopped by both barriers and Police.  However, .. they did not give up- oh no-- stand strong soldier- they tried to bribe - yes bribe- the officers to let them continue to the waterless fountain.  To no avail.  The police told us to go home--- but it wasn't that easy.  The metro was open and free that night, but everyone and their grandmother was trying to use it.  So we walked, but we walked the wrong way for a bit and the police were saying that we couldnt go back the right way becuase it was so crowded. So in teh end we walked for about ... a long time- I dont honestly remember how long, and finally found a bus that could take us the right way.  In the end- it took us four hours to get home--  sad.  but- you know-- some nights are like that i guess.

oh and two more things- 1. I mopped my floors today.  go me.
