Government exists as a vehicle for our common endeavors, and to shield us from the endeavors of those who would do us harm.
I would argue that the agent of harm is as likely to be a corporation bent on extracting profit from people and places as it is to be a military threat. Consequently, regulation ought to be founded upon the principle of the common good and suppress profit for the sake of profit.
