Poaching...

So I'm reading a book about evolutionary psychology (or sociobiology if you prefer) entitled On Human Nature by Edward O. Wilson which argues for the incorporation of basic biological facts concerning humans into the social sciences and humanities. For instance, our historical diet is roughly seventy percent plant matter and thirty percent animal matter. The author then argues two related points: first, humans will seek to maintain a balance fairly similar to that; and second, that humans who do not have access to that level of meat may resort to cannibalism, or homicide to relieve population pressure. weird

His examples tend to be wildly out of hand, but his central argument that the human mind is not a blank slate but is filled with preferences, predilections, and proclivities is spot on.
