Moving On?
I've got what could potentially be some great news! I've been tired of juggling two jobs for a while now. I work six days a week and occasionally seven days a week. I'm never going to get anywhere at either job. A few weeks ago my mom told me that my cousin Nikki got hired by the same company that my cousin Chrissy works for. The business coincidently does the physicals, drug, and alcohol testing that is mandatory for my one job.
Chrissy is a phlebotomist (she can draw blood), but Nikki isn't. I wondered what the hell Nikki was going to do. Mom told me they were going to train Nikki.
On February 22nd I went up to the office and asked if I could fill out an application. I had to wait and then a woman took me to a back room to talk to me. After a few minutes the person that I've always thought was the boss came into the room and talked to me. The way she was talking made me think she was going to hire me. I filled out a bunch of paperwork, including a W4. Ursula told me that she needed to talk to a woman named Sara.
Almost a week later I hadn't heard anything. Ursula had given me her email and cell phone number. I quickly wrote a short email thanking her for taking the time to come to talk to me. She replied back the next day that Sara would be getting in touch with me to set up an interview. This past Thursday my cell phone rang while I was at the Senior Center. I didn't recognize the number, but something told me to answer it.
I ran into the hallway and five minutes later came back with an interview set up with Sara. I met her on Saturday (3/12) and we talked for an hour and a half. I learned that Ursula is indeed the owner and boss. Sara said she liked me and thought I'd work out well with the company.
Basically, I'm going to do a trial run with Partners. They'll teach me how to do physicals, drug and alcohol testing, and I'll even learn how to run a hearing and EKG machine. I never thought I'd have a job in the medical field. I need to buy scrubs!
But how am I going to juggle three jobs in the meantime? I don't want to quit the Senior Center or Bus Company outright in case I don't like Partners in Safety. I mean, it's quite a different job. I'll be on my feet a lot more. Can my body handle it with my arthritis? I'm not sure. I'm going to work at the Center only on Sundays. I'll need to talk to my boss at the bus company and I'll need to cut back my hours there. I need to work at least twenty hours to keep my health insurance and I currently work twenty-seven and a half each week. If I end up liking Partners (or PIS for short), then I'll quit the Senior Center outright. From what Ursula told me, if I work for them for three months then I'll qualify for health insurance. So, at the end of the school year, I'll be able to quit the bus company and not go back in September.
I'm really hoping I enjoy this new job!
