Metaphor

"It felt good to laugh. Either Goliath was shrinking, or I was losing bits of him along the way, and however disgusting that image was, I was glad for it."

Is that a good metaphor? I don't know. It amused me when I wrote it, and now I find I like it. Does that make it good writing?
