Rei Tsubaki is a first generation Shadow God Slayer, taught by the fading Greek Goddess of Night, Nyx herself. Knowing that with the loss of faith of people in the Ancient Gods, she would be subjected to a slow and painful fading away, she took an orphan who showed promise under her wings so he could ease her passing. So as to not cause him pain when he killed her, she treated him cruelly, barely keeping him alive and always reminding him that he was nothing but a tool. As he killed her, she finally acknowledged that he had surpassed even her expectations with her dying breath.
Shadow God Slayer Magic is a Caster-Type Lost Magic wielded by Rei Tsubaki, who successfully killed the Forgotten Goddess Nyx with it.
Basic Spells (E-Rank to B-Rank)
- Liquefy: Rei liquefies his physical form into shadows and melts into the surrounding shadows. This is useful for letting an attack phase through or evading detection, which is useful in both combat situations and for espionage.
- Shadow Manipulator: He uses the shadows around him, solidifying and liquefying them at will.and manipulating their shape. He can also project them from parts of his body much like Dragon Slaying Magic.
- Roar of the Shadow God: Rei gathers shadows in his mouth and releases them at the opponent. They solidify as they reach the opponent, resulting in a forceful physical attack.
- Claw of the Shadow God: He encases his hands in shadows that solidify on contact with the opponent, boosting the damage dealt.
- Fist of the Shadow God: He encases his fists in shadows that solidify on contact with the opponent, boosting the damage dealt.
- Shield of Night: Rei solidifies shadows to block attacks. This is used mostly to shield others, as he can liquefy himself to negate damage.
- Shadow Clones: Rei uses shadows to solidify into his own (or someone else's) form. Though this is useful as a distraction, such clones can not copy magical ability, nor the physical abilities of others than himself.
- Wing of the Shadow God: Manipulating the shadows, he can create two razor-sharp and diamon-hard wings, usable for short durations of flight (less than twenty minutes) as well as attack and blocking attacks.
Advanced Spells (A-Rank to S-Rank)
- Night of Illusions: By projecting shadows directly onto the opponent's eyes, he's able to create illusions. This, however, is a tiring spell and requires absolute concentration.
- Falling Night:: Extending his shadow, he casts it onto his opponent's eyes so all they can see is darkness till the spell is lifted. This does not negate the other senses like an illusion does.
- Dance of the Night: Extending his shadow under/above/on either side of the enemy (can be only two directions out of the four) he then manipulates its shape into various projectiles shooting at the enemy, arms that grasp them, ropes that restrain them or a variety of other object.
Highly Advanced Spells (S+-Rank)
- Shadow God Form: In this form Rei becomes almost intangible, the casting time for Shadow Seeker (liquefying himself) being reduced to a negligible instant. He can also project solidified shadows from his whole body simultaneously, and the casting time between projection spells (such as Fist, Roar, Claw, Wing etc) is also absent. However, this form takes a heavy toll on his body. He can not maintain it for more than ten minutes and collapses as soon as he comes out of it. In this form, he has dark flame-like marks running over half his face and left side of his body.
- Shadow God Form: Deadly Nightshade: A more powerful version of Night of Illusions, the main difference between the two spells is that the damage inflicted while under this spell is real. However, the illusions in this spell can be crafted only from real memory - down to the details such as damage - present in either the opponent or the caster's minds.
- Shadow God Form: Genesis of Nyx: He gathers shadows into a ball in his hands and launches it at the opponent either as a beam or a ball which then explodes, releasing paralysing poison fumes in the air. Only Rei is immune to this poison, and there is no antidote once inhaled. It does not cause death, but causes strong hallucinations and inhibits higher neural functions, which causes the weak-willed to eventually succumb to it.The intensity of the explosion as well as the radius depends on the amount of shadows used. This is a risky technique due in part to the fact that even allies, if caught in the blast radius, will fall victim to it and in part due to the strain it places on Rei himself. He has only used it once - in his fight against Nyx - and remained near-comatose for over a month after that.
