I have the day off for the holiday and am enjoying the welcome reprieve from the stresses of work.
Yesterday was the first day operating under the new computer system at the office. There are still numerous problems with it though:
- 10% of my clients are still not even entered into the system (meaning nothing at all can be done with them in the system),
- the schedule was only 60% complete for the day (meaning we had little idea who who was coming in when for what appointments),
- future days of the schedule are barely entered at all (meaning scheduling clients for future sessions is almost impossible),
- the entire system was down for 3 hours in the middle of the day (meaning nothing at all could be done on it during that time),
- I only have about 70% of my clinical data (like diagnoses) entered for my clients (meaning I still have hours of entry still to do),
- the psychiatrists are on the verge of full revolt after finding that they will have to enter their own notes & reports rather than just dictating everything as they are accustomed to (meaning what normall takes a doctor 10 minutes to do is now taking 2 hours), and
- everyone is feeling stressed, lost, confused, and overworked making the entire office environment a very negative place (but hey, at least I'm not the only one!).
I am supposed to start my new interpersonal therapy group a week from today. I'm not yet fully prepared for that so I've been working on the group material today and reading Yalom's "Theory and Practice of Group Psychotherapy" again. I think I'll be ready by next Tuesday as planned, but I'm not sure if the referred clients will be sufficiently prepared to begin then.
On the positive side, I've submitted my first class for the
Grey School for review by the department dean. It's a lower-level class on the creation of one's "Wizardly Sanctum Sanctorum" for the Department of Magickal Practice. My next step is finishing the research and beginning to put together my first advanced-level class (covering the anatomy and physiology of the skin along with an overview of the herbs used to treat various skin issues).
Last night
faeryshaman and I sat outside our apartment and watched a fabulous fireworks display being set off by our neighbors. Tonight we'll set off our own collection, which won't be nearly as large and spectacular, but will certainly be fun. It's something new for her to be able to do these things, as private fireworks are illegal in Australia due to the danger of bush-fires (something I didn't know until a few days ago). It's wonderful to be able to share this new experience with her!
