Yokohama
4:45pm
-Slept in today until 10. Every other day I've woken before 6:45
-I can't help feeling my life at home creeping back in on me, worries and the like.
-The train ride was good. As we got farther away from Yokohama, the country side began to spread out a little.
-Our exit in Kita-Kamakura (mouth/entrance to Kamakura) was into a tiny station. There were so many trees which climbed all the way up the hillsides. I'm not sure i'd have it any other way.
-The temple we visited was called Engakuji and was huge and filled with trees, people, and sky. Apparently they host a lot of weddings there. After visiting, I can see why.
-From there we walked down Kmachi Dori (a street) and past rows of beautiful old-style japanese houses. During the walk we bought handmade rice crackers and sweet potatoe pasteries.
-After passing under/through a giant tunnel we came out next to the Annex location of the Kamakura Modern Art Museum. Tickets were cheap -a couple bucks- and inside we found an series exibit of about 80 Goya prints with cheery names written under them in spanish like 'The Death of Hope.' Reading them, I found that I remembered a lot more Spanish than I had previously hoped and between Dad and I we were able to translate almost all of them. The experience only increased my desire to brush up on my languages.
-After the museum we walked down and through some paths to Kamakura proper. The main street was packed with people -albiet less than Tokyo- and souviner shops selling useless trinkets.
-Lunch was spaghetti at this hip, 2nd floor resturant. While the food was good, the atmosphre was better. The woman who ran it was cute and spoke some english. I lost the piece of paper i wrote the name of the music playing on, but it was somehting like espermera, or permera. From our seat, we could look directly out over Kamachi Dori and watch people walk by. There were more tourists (gajin) here than any where else I've been in Japan.
-We're thinking about sushi for dinner. It seems fitting if not entirely unoriginal.
-It's going to be hard and easy to leave this place. As suffocating as a city this size is, there's something here that really feels right to me.
