I took it an entirely different way, I guess. I hit "Archangel" and what it gave me was that sort of sloppy sentimentality brought on by too much time in clubs/on drugs, messily soldered onto the hauntology of his earlier work. My first thought was actually of early Massive Attack, where his last album (and the Ghost Hardware disc) brought me back to early solo Tricky. His production's excellent as ever, but I'm finding myself at odds with his artistic directions.

Lacking haunted oil drum bonfires in London backalleys, I've been getting my ghosts this year from the possessed circuits of Not Breathing's The Black Old Pueblo.

You know I've never thought of his stuff in connection to trip-hop, and I can see where your coming from, but I also think that the sound on this disc isn't that far away from his first album. I mean he was nearly as sentimental on that record as he is here, certainly in a different way, yet somehow there seems to be more reason for it on this release. I'd say give the other tracks a chance if you haven't already, and if not, I guess we'll just have to disagree.

I haven't heard Not Breathing's stuff, and I'm on his myspace now and I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. I will definitely have to check it out.
