Amerie- "Gotta Work"
Click to viewI'm really amazed by the string of hits Amerie has put together. The production, courtesy of One Up Entertainment, shimmers in the same way "Take Control" and "1 Thing" have, while the lyrics, as The Wire writer Dave Stelfox noted, are "proudly blue collar." On top of all that is Amerie's pitch-perfect vocal performance, a staggering, soul-induced workout that rides every drum crash and horn blast with equal fervor. Along with the aforementioned "Take Control" and R. Kelly's "I'm a Flirt", this has to be one of the best pop singles released all year.
