Shortstop! Most people are right handed, yeah? So they hit the ball in that left direction and if it rolls on the ground, Shortstop catches and throws to first so the baseman can tag the runner.

Because... One team hits, and one team fields, so the fielding team wants to get all three outs before the hitting team can score.
