TW: untitled Jack character study

Oct 13, 2007 22:59

Fandom: Torchwood
Pairing: Jack/OC
Rating: um... PG-13?
Word Count: 540
Warnings: SCIENCE!! and mpreg - but it's cannon
Author's Note: Um... I kinda had it in my head that Jack was able to become pregnant because of the Y chromosome shrinking out of existence (something that it truly happening, but I don't think mpreg will be a result of that). This takes place back when Jack is under Time Agency employ. I have no idea where this came from. I'm gonna go back to writing my other fics now...
Disclaimer: Torchwood belongs to RTD and BBC
Summary: Character study on Jack before he started freelancing.

There was something to be said about evolution. Jack had cursed Darwin from Sol 3 and, incidentally Kiraete from Edl 5, Gytetrsl from Bfer Lu, and Hid from Jhikfoifvhur, even if he knew it truly wasn’t the man’s fault. Darwin had no idea what genes were or how they worked. Yet 3,000 years after Darwin’s idea shook the world, Jack cursed his name and his radical - but true - ideas.

It wasn’t Darwin’s fault that Jack was in his current situation. It was that Jack was male; therefore, he had a Y chromosome. Or, he should have - if he had been born one thousand years before he had. That’s when the last Y chromosome disappeared. The bits of what made that chromosome male had crossed over to the X chromosome. One of his teachers had explained it to him once, but he had forgotten about it after he had taken his exams.

He wished he had remembered... not that it would have prevented his situation. The only thing that could have prevented his current situation was a hormonal suppressant that had been black listed two hundred years before his birth or a barrier containment that no one ever bothered with anymore. Jack wasn’t even sure that the barriers were sold in the mainstream any more or if they were a specialty item that needed to be special ordered after hours with 300 credit exchanging hands discretely.

He eyed the Votrex Manipulator on his left wrist and cursed Darwin again for his own lack of foresight. Darwin had absolutely nothing to do with Jack’s lack of foresight, but he figured that if he was going to blame someone, he might as well continue to blame Darwin.

Jack realized that there were two people who were truly at fault for this situation, and, unfortunately, he was one of them. The other person responsible was dead. He had died not long ago, and Jack mourned him.

He had three more months to mourn before he would need to move on, for his daughter’s sake. The conflicting emotions were horrible: he was depressed and content, melancholic and horny. Of course he was always horny, but the fetus in his belly made the urges more powerful and overwhelming. It was more difficult to find someone to relieve him when they discovered his condition, but there were some he was able to find with that particular kink.

There was also fear. The Time Agency would place the child - his child in the care of a foster family, a proper family, not a lone parent who went gallivanting through time for a paycheck. Jack vowed that he would visit his daughter as often as he was able, that he would be in her life even if he could not support her. And he would definitely warn her about not taking hormone suppressants or using a barrier containment.

Jack just couldn’t remember where she was. He knows he had given birth to her. He remembers the pain of her being ripped from his body. He remembers that she was the most beautiful creature in the world. His body physically aches at the empty hollow she left in his belly. But he’ll be damned if her never sees her again.
