The book I'm currently reading,
Starving Jesus, pretty much is a shove into reality about being a Christian. The authors are two amazing men, who minister about something that is
probably the most taboo thing to minister about.
When you read this book, it's like lying down on the train tracks while the Truth Train is coming at you at a velocity that the high-speed trains of Europe reach.
It's amazing. It's pushing me out of my comfort zone.
They literally tell you to not hold back about taking up your cross and follow him. They really tell you to put the book down and go share the gospel with someone, anyone, that you normally wouldn't. Your neighbors next door, the man in front of you in the grocery store check-out line, the other parents at the soccer game, whoever, wherever, whenever.
I have a hard enough time politely sharing the gospel with the very people I'm there to share it with. I've been so afraid that I would offend or hurt them... when that's exactly what I should do. Good thing they have a chapter titled "Offend Like Jesus."
They also slap you in the face with sin. Sin isn't something that we should continue to ignore, sin is something we need to face and address. They promote honesty.
They're about all these things that are so obvious, yet we as a body have such a hard time actually doing. As they put it, we're "Born Again Lazy."
Just read the book. If I had the money, I'd get a copy for everyone I know. The first chapter is on their site, but it isn't even the tip of the giant iceberg that'll tear you apart like the Titanic.
