what me and a teabagger probably have in common

Part of how I keep myself sharp, and part of how I also keep myself humble, is to try to find some commonality between myself and someone whom I would consider to be, if not an "enemy" (I have very few, and they are precious to me), then someone with whom I'd virulently disagree.

Teabaggers are those sorts of people.

But if I scratch the surface of these revulsions I feel towards them and their idiocy, even there I find some commonalities:

1.) We both think we don't get taxed the right amount. In their case, it's too much, in mine, it's too little. (I think we should be taxed exorbitantly, yet never have to pay for school or health care.)

2.) We both think the government wastes our tax dollars on things that are wasteful and stupid. In their case, it's health care. In my case, it's war. But we both agree that the bank bailouts were a bunch of old bullshit, and we both sincerely hope (and deeply fear) that we aren't going to get that money back ever, and that our kids and grandkids will be saddled with the debt.

3.) All of us are going broke, really quick, and what we're doing may be damaging to the dollar in the long run.

4.) We both don't want to give up our Social Security. In my case, it's because I believe it's something we all pay into and a contract to take care of each other regardless of our age or our physical/mental abilities. In their case, it's because they want their money back. But then again, don't we all?

5.) Neither of us are all that Christian.

6.) Both of us suffer from the disease of racism. Me, because I am a racially-mixed, light-skinned, bougie-talking, upper-lower-middle-class working class woman with all the baggage that entails. In my case, I'm trying to call that shit out in myself, and unlearn it. In their case, they flash it around like it's something to be proud of, yet deny it exists within their ranks.

Something I've been meaning to say lately: I would love it if the Tea Party were a real, sharp, educated group of citizenry with a legitimate bone to pick with how our government spends our hard-earned dollars. I would love it if they'd spent their copious airtime bringing up real beefs. Instead they've been racist douchetards, willfully ignorant of policy, dangerous, threating, vulgar, and horrifying to watch.

And to those in those ranks who would say, "Well, not all of us are racist!" Take a look around you. Everybody you see there has no problem being associated with those assholes. You are the company you keep.

Welcome to the stinking dingleberry-ridden asshole of society, genius.

wingnuts, read a book, race, teabaggers, terrorists
