I wish I was a young hooker again, on occasion. Not because the reality was all that great of shakes, but because I see how women are carrying themselves now, and I might have felt more comfortable and less ashamed of my sexuality. I might have had more fun as a prostitute if I were coming up in the 21st Century.
This is not to say that there's any less exploitation. I'm just saying there's a larger and more accessible body of work for the lit nerds, more of a support system for the real women, and less of a reason to feel ashamed of it. For all of us who ever slept with anyone to buy a dress, feed a child, keep alive.
The Internet's the best thing to have happened to the prostitution profession. For better, or for worse.
