While I was down in Philadelphia in early July,
fotorugger and I took a 3-night trip to NYC.
NYC July 2007Mike got us a room in the Newport area of Jersey City, which turned out to be a modern, clean, safe area to stay in. Less expensive than NYC, it has it's own PATH train stop that had us in Manhattan in 10 minutes.
We went to a bar in the East Village called
Big Lugg for their Thursday 'Gut' night. There's nothing like getting cheap beer in the middle of NYC for taking your shirt off! The following night we went to the Dugout (which was kinda lame), then the Eagle (which was better).
Though we had wanted to see the Met and possibly Moma, we opted to take the subway out to Brooklyn and visit the
NYC Transit Museum. Set in an abandoned MTA station, they had all kinds of interesting pictures and even old subway cars from years gone by. A great gift shop and $5 entrance made it a worthwhile outing.
From there we walked back toward the river and hung out at a park facing Manhattan for a bit, then made our way on foot across the Brooklyn Bridge. From here we got some great pics (and probably shot a few hundred collectively).
Of note for food, we ate at
Dallas BBQ in Chelsea. We liked it so much that we went to another location in Times Square also. Great food, great prices.
Other things we checked out included the stunning
Fifth Avenue Apple store, Battery Park, Central Park, the WTC site, the Chrysler Building, Rockafeller Center, the east and west villages, and Times Square (day and night).
Best of all, I got to spend those three nights exploring New York with
fororugger. Aside from being a wonderful bf, he really is the perfect travel companion for me - we always have a blast anywhere we go!
