Birthday and other stuff

Well, yesterday was an exhausting, but also fun day. I think the first to congratulate was Jordan, not counting my grandma who called me last Thursday to wish me a happy birthday and was really surprised when I said my birthday was on the 29th! ;-) I mean, after 21 years you'd think she'd know... ah well :-) Anyway, went to bed late the night before so when my dad rang me just before 8 I thought 'WAAAAAAAH' but nevertheless was nice to my dad since it was my birthday. Well, then we sorted out the dates and details for their flight to Edinburgh in September. They are now coming to see me from Sep 10th to 18th which I hope is not too long. Should be okay though... hopefully! They do get a bit stressful after a while. Then after booking the tickets online at something like quater past 8 Fausto, my friend from Venezula who I met when I was an exchange student in Finland, rang me and said he was at the Westbahnhof. He and a friend of his' had come from Zürich on the night train. So, on the phone I directed them to Ottakring and said I'd pick them up from the station. So by 8.30am I was on my way to the underground. Had a nice chat with our neighbour in the lift. I think that was like the 2nd time I have ever seen her face to face in those 2 years I have been living here...

After picking up Fausto and his friend Marvin we headed back to the flat and just sat down and relaxed a bit. Marvin had a nap while Fausto and I went to the shops to get drinks for the party. Then after a lot of talking and catching up the boys decided to take the tram into town to walk around a bit and see the delights of Vienna. I stayed at home to prepare the party- hoover the floors, start the sangria and do some general tidying up. By the time the two came back at 5 the flat was in a somewhat presentable state. I had also made some Gulasch with Knödel for them which I hope they liked. Then we took all the glasses we have and set them out on the table for later and we put crisps and biscuits into bowls. People started to arrive at around half 6 (I said come at 7 so I was rather surprised when people were early! I had just come out of the shower). Well, as for the party- lots of sangria, laughing, stories being told over and over again (I like to call that the 'Paul syndrome'), drinks spilled- the usual things. My sister came later with some banana-chocolate cake she had made. Yay! :-) Unfortunately it had no candles on it, but ah well... she said the cake wasn't big enough for 21 candles ;-P People started to leave at about half 11 to catch a busses home. Quite a few stayed until 2 though which was nice. Not so nice was the fact that our neighbour, the lady from the list, complained at half 12 saying she had been trying to get to sleep for 2 hours but couldn't because we were too loud. I can't even remember properly what I said to her, I just know I apologised like mad and told everybody to shut up. She wasn't really angry or threathened to call the polise. Actually, she was really nice about it, but I thought it was a bit embarrassing... ah well, no parties here for another year anyway ;-) The last two, Maria and Anna, left at about half 2... so that was the end of that party.

As for the presents I got: from Petra, Alice and Bernhard I got a few things to take with me to Edinburgh. They said they were against the home sickness: a red and white 'Austria' t-shirt, a very cheap souvenir or Vienna that looks like a telly, but has a little hole on top and if you look through it who can see some places in Vienna, oh, and a film called 'Auf der Alm da gibts ka Sünd'... not quite a porn film, but near enough ;-) Then I got some H&M vouchers, two books, a cd case, some chocolate showergel and a little pink pillow with an 'S' on it.

I really enjoy my birthday. It was somethign different to last year and different to the year before that but overall really good. One of the best birthdays in quite a while.
