My perspective on the PSP
I've had my eye on the devloping story around the PSP since the first news of its inception. Watching as the stories developed, then the images came out. First it was white, then black. Battery life / internet abilities skeptical, un-defined. The fanatical Japanese release. But now it's finally here. I've wanted it since the first images came out, but oh dear god after actually playing with one do I want one enough to kill a minority.
I knew this thing would be a hit, it had everything that a portable should have to dive into the lucrative portable gaming market. The potential for great 3D rendering, a high quality adpative LCD screen, Music, Video, photos and even internet. It has everything in a beautifully stylish somewhat-affordable package. However, as for the main competition. (If you dont count the luaghable UK attempt called the "Gizmodo") The DS lacked the things I wanted and excelled at nothing I needed. It was unimpressive when I played with it but thats not where Nintendo will lose this market battle. No its in the developers that looms DS impeding doom. The PSP has developer backing only Sony could pull off. (Even if it means they are sleeping in EA's bed.) Strong developer backing shows the gaming communities perception of a good product that will bring in consumers for thier games. It's a good indicator of the better product.
If you have a psp or plan on buying one I've read about a few interesting things.
-After the first shipemnt is sold out, roughly a million. Spiderman 2 will no longer come with the unit free.
-When buying a game, look very carefully
here and spend wisely. Gamespot has very good reviews, use them.
-I hear that alter on Sony will charge for an internet service, however at the moment you can hack the PSP to browse internet for free.
