Still Sherlocked

Duuude, the new Sherlock episode was pretty sterling. Solid is the word that comes to mind. Not totally surprised by events though…

Hi, Peachy! It's good to see you. :)

I enjoyed the show, but for me it didn't have the same magic. It's still fun, but the story seems to be unsupported drama for the sake of drama.
In S3, Mary shoots Sherlock for no good reason, because she just comes clean later anyway! Then Mary takes a bullet for Sherlock, and John blames Sherlock because??? It makes no sense. It's just drama. (and silly drama, because Mary can't jump faster than a speeding bullet. She would have had to start jumping before the trigger was pressed, which the super slo-mo says ain't so.)

I definitely enjoyed the show as a diversion. It's not awful, just not what it started out to be. There isn't the same magic. For me, the series jumped the shark when they separated Sherlock and John for no good reason. The way Sherlock should have sacrificed himself at the end of Season 2 was to save John from an assassin's bullet. When the creators made it all into head games-- NO one would go to these lengths to fool a friend. Why? --It became what I don't like about modern TV-- shock for the sake of shock, not a developing plot. Plot has worked well for stories over time, it might be nice to try it in this show.

I've watched each episode of Season 3 once, and that was enough. I want to see John and Sherlock together, solving crimes as buddies, and I haven't had this for 4 episodes now. That's almost half the show. I didn't sign up for the Mary Assassin show, or the John and Sherlock sniping at each other and being weird and dramatic show. I enjoy the references to canon. I wish they decided to steer the actual show down that path.

Hmm, seems grumbly. Sorry! I will say that I enjoyed this show better than any in Season 3. I'll watch it again and see if I can figure out some of these bizarre hints. But the way the show decides to jettison its problems when they're inconvenient (like undoing Sherlock shooting someone-- which in my view the character never would have done anyway) makes, for me, a less satisfying story. If you throw out the rules, I just can't work up much emotional investment.

In other news, how are you? I haven't been on LJ forever-- it's been a trying year. I have no idea what my country is doing. I might have to escape to Australia, where people on the whole appear more sane.

Best wishes to you for a wonderful 2017!

Hi Mariole! Lovely to see you!

I agree with much of your comment - it does seem drama for the sake of it, yes, with plot holes that are hard to swallow. Mary jumping in front of the bullet? If that was possible, Sherlock could have jumped away when he was shot in the first place.

Re Sherlock shooting Magnussen - you mean, how Mycroft simply faked the video of what happened so Sherlock wouldn't go down for it? Which doesn't make sense either! Why didn't they bloody well do that BEFORE they sent Sherlock on his suicide mission?

Anyway, I hope the next two episodes will have John and Sherlock back together. Maybe it will be angsty getting-them-back, I don't know. Will see.

I'm good - though yes, your country is in a bit of a mess! Australia isn't perfect, but at least we don't have THAT for a leader.

My first children's book comes out in March and the second in the series may be in July! Yay! Can't wait. Here's to a great 2017!

Oh, it's on Goodreads and Amazon - just look up Black Cats and Butlers by Janine Beacham. 😁😁 !!
