Horatio Hornblower

Has anyone read the Hornblower series? I'm interested in getting the first book for Christmas. I could borrow it from the library but if it's good, I'd rather have it in my collection.

Any reviews?

And no, I haven't seen the TV drama of it either. Ha ha.

question, real life, books

It's an amazing read! I recommend giving it a go. I watched the tv series for the massive amount of eye candy pretty much, and ended up really getting into it more than I thought I would. So I ended up getting the books.

Ooo, awesome. Thanks.

I read something about the first book- Mr. Midshipman, not being really the first book? I presume you should read it first though. Which order did you read them in?

Yeah Mr. Midshipman wasn't written first, but I was told to read that one first because chronologically it's the first one. I was a bit confused with that but I ended up reading them in their chronological order, although some people said it's best to read them in the order they were written. Oh well, didn't seem to bother me coz they were amazing! Apparently if you read them in Forester's creation order you get more of a background or something, but I guess if you see the tv series first you've already got all that.

But yeah, after Midshipman I read Lieutenant, and so on.

Hmm... well, I haven't seen the TV series but I think I might still want to read in chronological order. I hope it'll still make sense that way.

What writer *doesn't* write in chr. order? I mean, that's like saying JK Rowling writing the 4th Harry Potter book before the 2nd. Heh. I mean, I don't always write in order but at least I publish in order (not real publish, internet publish. ;) )

hehe I know! It's a bit bizarre aye! I dare say reading HP out of order would be a complete mindfuck! XD

But yes, now I'm completely confused. Heh.
