So I was fortunate enough to be able to see the 3D IMAX version of Harry Potter OotP. It was A-mazing.
Harry Potter OotP:
The cinamatography was really original. It was a refreshing change.
The music was different too- I can't recall hearing the usual HP theme in there but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
As far as plot goes, there wasn't much I would want to complain about. I wasn't a huge fan of the book as it seemed to go on without much in it. The movie had just the right stuff in.
Pros-
Alan Rickman's Snape. Duh. His scenes were by far the most amazing. But I could be bias here... ;) I'm glad that this time around there was a nice balance between him being the evil comic relief guy and actually being an important teacher. I felt in GoF there was so much slapstick and one-liners with him that it took away from the amazing depth and experience that Alan can bring to the table. At least in OotP Alan had the slapstick and one-liners- heck one-worders but still got to be a teacher. However, that being said, I LOVE the funny lines and the slapstick. It's just so brilliant with him. I laughed so much when he hit Ron out of frustration with Umbridge but not as hard as when he constantly hit Harry and Ron in GoF. Still- lots of fun there.
Lucius Malfoy- because evil is sexy. And because he was in 3D. Which means he was about an inch from my face. I mean, come on. What beats that? Well... actually having Jason Isaacs an inch from me... or Alan Rickman. ;)
Bellatrix- I was expecting wacky because Helena is wacky. She did a good job...though that leering I had sex with you this morning look she gave Lucius near the end was slightly disturbing. Ha ha.
Umbridge- Brilliant.
Luna- AMAZING. I love her to pieces. The casting was brilliant.
Sirius- My goodness, could Sirius get any hotter? I mean, really. I'm surprised the veil thing didn't combust when he went through it. And, sadly, there will be no more Sirius. *sniff*
Lupin- looking older but still awesome. Heck everyone was looking older. Was slightly sad to see it in Lupin and Mr. Weasley. :(
I am slightly ashamed to say it- but I think Crabbe and Goyle look HOT.
Mad Eye's broom. Wicked.
The fact that Sirius was not a stupid log-face this time around made me immensely happy. Still... I always pictured flooing your head meant having your actual head just floating in the fireplace- no flames, nothing. Just your real head. But I could be wrong, I should go back and read the description in the book again. But yes, flame-head was a step up from log-face.
The entrance hall to the Ministry of Magic was AMAZING. I nearly gasped when I saw it because it was exactly how I imagined it. Not necessarily with the offices and that but still- the fireplaces and whatnot were perfect.
The script. So much of it was written just for the movie but it was amazing. Everything Harry said to the D.A in the Room of Requirement was truly awesome.
Cons-
Azkaban was not exactly how I pictured it, but I won't complain too much.
Cho Chang did not squeal on the D.A. but considering Harry had to get annoyed with her somehow I *guess* I can forgive them? I dunno... They could have done that properly.
I wish there was something about Quidditch in there.
Harry and Cho should have gone to Madam Puddifoot's because it was awesome.
Harry was supposed to see Neville's parents *and Lockhart* in St. Mungo's but I'm really not too bothered with how they changed that to Neville explaining. It worked well.
I didn't find Neville as cute as before...he always had a unique face and now it seems more... plain looking? I dunno...
No Lily in the "Pensieve" scene. Heck, no real terrible taunting with the Maurauders and you could barely see them.
It was easy to blink and miss a lot in this film, but I suppose that's mainly because a lot was quick flashbacks. Still, I think the cinamatography was well done.
The fact that Voldy possessed Harry but never once told Dumbledore to kill him and Harry. That was the main point of possessing Harry and yet all it was was Harry having his own internal battle with Voldy.
....
I can't remember much now that it's been a while since I saw the movie. I just know that it was really good. Probably not my favorite one but good nonetheless. I usually have lots to complain about when they put HP books to film but I was very content with this one.
One note about something that I want to share. Scary Voldemort wielding a wand, threatening to kill people, casting curses and the like, yelling at Harry or Death Eaters I'm fine with.
Voldemort doing nothing but standing around while dressed in a muggle suit- absolutely freaking terrifying. Honestly, everytime I saw "Armani!Voldemort," as my friend
rushysgirl calls him, I was petrified. Super scary. Did anyone else get that impression?
Overall- two thumbs up. GO SEE IT NOW.
Die Hard 4:
Extremely enjoyable. Bruce was hilarious- some great lines. Unfortunately the villian was not as intriguing as Alan's Hans Gruber or Jeremy Iron's Simon Gruber. You gotta love the German baddies who get their hands dirty. The villian looked SO familiar to me and yet I don't think I've ever seen any of his other movies.
I went with my dad and
doubtinsalmon42and had a great time. Of course, it's quite unbelievable that John McClane would ever live through all those situations but that's what you expect from Die Hard movies. ;)
Overall: two thumbs up although I would say this could be a 'wait for the DVD rental' kind of movie although explosions are probably always best on the big screen. ;)
The Breakup:
Meh. Drawn out and boring. Not too bad but wouldn't really recommend it. Ending was blah.
Overall: thumbs down
