Steve and Danny were stretched out on the sofa, enjoying the silence and also the sounds of the ocean after a hectic week at Five-0.
Danny was spooned back up against Steve, and in his arms was Oliver Fong, Kono and Charlie’s 4 week old son. He was asleep. They were babysitting. It was the first time that the new parents had left him with anyone else. Tonight Kono and Charlie were out celebrating their second wedding anniversary.
Steve and Danny had been both honored and very nervous about being given this privilege. But Danny had done this before, how hard could it be. And it wasn’t, Steve thought. He had rarely felt so at peace.
Steve ran a hand through Danny’s hair. “Hey beautiful, what about you and me getting ourselves one of these?”
Danny sighed. “You clucky for a baby SEAL, eh Commander,” He looked down at Ollie with a grin. "You think they’re always like this? The short answer is no.” Not wanting to start a full-on rant, as the movement would wake the baby, he tried not to get his body into the act. “Steve, what you are seeing here is special. Babies are mostly noisy, hungry, stinky AND they puke all over you! You have to be ready to accept, even embrace these truths.”
Danny could feel Steve’s body shaking with suppressed laughter, He had gotten a rise out of Danny with no effort at all!
“Right McGarrett, you wake this child up and you have to pacify him until his parents pick him up.”
“Oh Danno,” Steve settled back down into the sofa, snuggling Danno closer in, with Oliver none the wiser. “I love you.”
