I've been a student for many, many years.  Though I've been entitled to concessions from the government, and managed to score myself a well paying one-day-per-week job, I've learned to live simply and not spend my money on crap.  Early on I had a lot of trouble not going over budget on food even though I was buying the cheapest vegan food available ( Read more... )

As do I =)

I particularly like Animals Australia's campaigns and the way they ask for donations to specific causes. I read about the radio thing a few months ago (either linked from you or vp) and just had to support it.

Earlier this year myself and a inflorescence and her husband rescued some baby chicks destined for either grinding up or gassing or a life pushing out eggs. They ended up at this specifically-fowl animal sanctuary near Canberra. Its called "A Poultry Place" and is run by Bede Carmody. I give him a donation every week to keep the chickens fed and I know for sure he can always use more as he is totally reliant on donations to survive and I don't think he advertises or solicts at all. You can contact him through his newsletter: http://www.al-act.org/files/PoultryPlaceUpdate.pdf

I think this is an awesome thing to donate to as it is going to a real person who really does real things for real actual animals, and who can really really use the help. =)

P.S. Having looked at your blog, I see we've got less in common than I thought: (a) you're going back to America ASAP, and (b) not having had to write a PhD on him, I still like Christopher Smart :-) Well, Jubilate Agno anyway. That's all I know.
