Out of Africa

Jan 31, 2006 22:01

NOTE: Click on thumbnails for larger version of pics ~ I'll add some more over the next few days, including a couple of lion shots that Jo thinks are as good as my Zebra photo.  She wants me to enter it (Zebra) into a National Geographic amateur photographer comp (or something like that) ... hmmmphhh???... personally I think my photograph of the George Washington statue I took in London in July '05 is far more memorable!... whatever eh

Ah... I'm home in Aus by the way.  Still VERY jet-lagged and tired, but glad I made the trip.  Learnt alot about my family, some-more about my dad, and ALOT about my sister!... learnt stuff about me too :o).

« Howick Falls
  Wednesday 18th January ~ 2.23pm
about 20km north of Pietermaritzburg is Howick, where Denise and Tony used to live (late 1980's) in the years before Tony had his accident. This picture was taken on the drive down to Pietermaritzburg.
Focal length = 18mm;   Apature = 5;   Shutter = 1/60th

» Tala 1: Bird life -
Saturday 21st January ~ 9:11am On Saturday (21st) we took a break from everything and went to Tala.  A private game reserve about 20km south of Pietermaritzburg.  I went to see the Zebra, Rhino, Giraffe etc; but found the birds the most interesting to photograph.
Focal length = 300mm;   Apature = 5.6;  Shutter = 1/250th

« Tala 2: Bird life -
  Saturday 21st January ~ 2:19pm
Over a lunch of calamari, baby-prawn and avacardo wrapped in thinly sliced zuccini, and king prawns presented on a bed of tender rice we watched three giraffe casually strolling through the acacia (white-thorn) trees... and in front of us the most beautiful small birds.
Focal length = 300mm;   Apature = 5.6;   Shutter = 1/125th

» Tala 3: Male Springbok
Saturday 21st January ~ 3.07pm  The first antelope we encountered were in fact, Kudu and Impala (before lunch), but an icon of South Africa (including their rugby team) is the Springbok.  It has a bent hide (backside) that aids in its 'springing' ability. (detail of the beautiful springbok's face)
Focal length = 130mm;   Apature = 5.6;  Shutter = 1/320th

RIGHT... that's it for now. Will add more later. Going to have a beer and sit with Jo in front of goggle-box
