« Bridge of Sighs - Cambridge, England
"This is Nathan and Nat"... 6.30am goes my radio at some extra-ordinary volume - addressing my paranoid fear that any other volume would fail to wake me up! *As Jo points out it's true insanity, because I'd wake up if she dropped a pin on the carpet next to the bed* ..... so, anyhoo... "In what city is the 'Bridge of Sighs'?" asks Nathan.... Jo stirs on her side of the bed, she's such a groggy-chick first thing. "So?" she mumbles, "... which city?" "Josie, I believe the 'Bridge of Sighs' is in Venice.... but there are famous *versions* of the bridge in many other European cities"
» The Punt: chief mode of tourist river transport - Cambridge, England I found myself thinking of my trip this last summer to Cambridge... sitting on the punt and listening to Cambridge University students tell legendary stories of Cambridge while earning some summer-tourist dollars for the following semesters tuition. One such tall story can be found here:

http://www.livejournal.com/users/aussie_annie/5875.html The bridge behind the punt (picture on the right) is Cambridge's famous "Mathematical Bridge". Said to have been designed and built by Isaac Newton, it is interesting to note that Newton died in 1727, while the bridge was actually built in 1749. It was also said that the original bridge was built without using nails - just the wooden beams using mathematical balance and gravity to hold the bridge together. Not true either... The
earliest photographs of the bridge (1853 - just before it's first major reconstruction) show it was held together with iron pins / screws at the joints
