Falling in love with my favorite song - A Gale Harold, David Tennant Picspam

They say you always fall for the same man.

I guess that would explain why I have never felt quite so fangirly as I do about Gale Harold and David Tennant.  Even though the genres of their respective shows could not be more different, it is hard to ignore the similarities.

Brian Kinney and the 10th Doctor are both brazen and confident, moving through the world with a confidence that most men can only dream of.  Brian is sexually confident, Pittsburg's gay Lothario with a killer business instinct.  The Doctor posses a truly other worldly genius, more brilliant than any other being in the universe and he knows it.

Yet beneth this outward confidence, they both care deeply for the people in their lives:  Michael, Lindsay, Debbie and eventually Justin and Gus in Brian's case.  The Doctor has a great love of humanity (or alien kind), always giving even the most evil beings a chance to make things right and of course there are his companions: Rose, Martha, Donna and Wilf who he would readily die for and does.

Now, there are some differences between the actors.  Obviously, David Tennant is Scottish and considered by many to be the best stage actor of his generation.  He is equally at home playing a quirky Time Lord as he is Hamlet.  I'll be honest, if I ever found out Gale Harold was playing Hamlet, I would probably run the other way, but he owned the role of Brian Kinney.  Perhaps what David lacks in "Hollywood" goodlooks, he makes up for in talent.  And for what Gale lacks in versatility, he makes up for in being smoking hot.  Now don't get me wrong...I think David Tennant is AMAZINGLY hot and Gale Harold is VERY talented, they just bring different things to the table.

Ok, I digress...onto the pics!!!

Give thanks we all...to this guy.

Now, you might be wondering why I'm starting with a picture of Russell T. Davis (and a rather terrible on at that!) but really he is a very important link between these two men/characters.  He did not create Doctor Who, but he did bring the show back to life in 2005 and was head writer for all of David's seasons.  And he didn't create the character of Brian Kinney, but he did create QAF UK that allowed the Showtime version to be made.  So, thanks RTD!  :)

The Lonliness

Nothing is more heart breaking in a story then seeing a character end up alone, especially these two who come so far and overcome so much to find love, only to be left.

With Brian, he wants to be alone.  He builds up walls.  Shuts people out.  He doesn't want this young, persistant kid in his life.  He doesn't want love.  Doesn't believe in it...and yet, by the end, things have changed.  He loves his partner.  His best friend.  His son.  And yet, two of those three leave him by the end.  So even though he is still young and still beautiful...he is still alone, dancing above it all.

For the Doctor, he has lived for nearly a millenium, seeing all the beauty and the horror the universe has to offer, sharing it with his companions who come along for the ride.  The Doctor loves.  Easily.  He doesn't want to be alone and yet by the end of the Series 4, he has realized that all these wonderful friends he has all have someone else.  Someone who can give him something he never can.  And saddest of all...he thinks they are better off without him.

The Angst

Both story lines deal with mysterious pasts: abusive, homophobic fathers and Time Wars that rob you of everything.  The beauty of both these actors is how effortlessly both Gale and David bring that hidden, unspoken pain to their performance. It comes out in a single tear as the Master dies in the Doctor's arms, a crack in his voice at the mention of Rose's name.  For Brian it is the hurt in his eyes when he confronts his mother, the desperation in his love making on that final night.

Of course...they can both bring the water works as needed.  Crying boys: a personal favorite of mine. :)

Now...onto the happier and slightly more superficial similarities.  :)

The Suits

These boys' lanky, long limbs couldn't look any better than they do in their suits.

Unless of course they are wearing, tee shirt, jeans and barefeet.

The HAIR

Brian's hair makes an arch of beauty through out all the 5 seasons...peaking perhaps his Season 3 hair.

The Doctor's hair is like a character all its own, but David's own hair can be pretty spectacular too.

Super Bendy

Who needs chairs when you got legs like these...

The Blonds

Their characters both have a thing for them:

Brian and Justin

Doctor and Rose

And from what the celebrity mags say...David seems to be rather fond of them in real life too.  :)

They also both went blond for roles and looked...well...not as good as usual.

Now for the lightning round!!!

Beards:

Silly hats and sun glasses:

Beautiful in B & W

But all this aside...they are two characters, shows and actors that have stolen my heart and my imagination and I am luckier for it!!

Thanks for taking a look with me.  :)
