The Great Transit- Day... two?

Oct 28, 2006 13:37

Right now we're in an internet cafe about a block from Notre-Dame Catherdral. It's nice to have made it this far in one piece!

The flight was predictably tedious. The best part (for me, at least) was when we hit the runway in dense fog in Paris this morning and Oscar boggled at the weather. Welcome to Europe! Oh, the other fun bit was when Oscar freaked out a bit at the bus suddenly driving on the "other" side of the road, then laughing at himself.

We met a couple from Bunbury in WA. They're going to be here for a few weeks, are travelling in the countryside and don't speak any French at all. Oh dear... English is NOT widespread here. We're getting by ok by reading things and speaking Spanish. Not too bad.

We only have the day in Paris, so we've spent a lot of it thus far 1. eating and 2. buying stuff to eat later. We found this awesome open-air marketplace in the Latin Quarter and bought wine, cheese, bread and mushrooms to eat later on. Oscar also had fun buying a bottle opener (the shopkeeper was most amused at his "pop" noise).

Aside from that, we've learned allll about how to buy a shower, and how worth it buying a shower is.

We're meeting our new friends for dinner tonight, then boarding the train to Barcelona. Will probably post from there, complete with a photo of me drinking coffee, and Oscar eating a toasted sandwich. Yay!

PS Muzak should be banned. It's been EVERYWHERE on this trip. The doom!
