We had a bit of a dinner party tonight; it was neither the best or worst of our gatherings. Whenever the subject of the election came up, there was glumness all around.
There is still cause to hope- whoever wins Ohio wins the election, and Kerry could still conceivably win Ohio's electoral votes. But it feels almost as though I am afraid to hope, and that was the feeling around the dinner table tonight. Of course, none of us are American, but the nature of the American President affects us to a high degree. The US is the global hegemon, the giant who cannot turn around without crushing some smaller other who is in the way. Besides which, the study of political science, particularly of American political science, has become a bit of an obssesionn for me, so the hows, whys and what could bes are all quite facinating to me. In any case, the number of Americans who voted for Bush (again!) is enough to convince one to move to Scandenavia, where things make a lot more sense.
Anyway, enough of the depression. We also watched Shrek 2, which I bought on DVD today. Much wine, Vermouth and port was consumed. Oh yeah, and I met the girl everyone calls my double today- she doesn't look that much like me! Maybe going to a party tomorrow, but have to get some solid work on the essay due on Friday done first. Then I can go to Cube on Friday night. I've decided to avoid Cube on Saturdays- it is way too crowded and nasty.
