Some time ago, I subscribed to Holly Lisle's newsletter. I don't remember why or what possessed me to. Now, though, every so often, I get a newsletter by email of different tips for writing and such. Sometimes I delete or pass them by, while other times I skim and read through them. Tonight was one of the read through them times. And something she said struck a chord with me. Not in terms of writing, but in terms of life. I thought I'd take a moment to share it with you. (In addition to promising an update in the future.)
From Holly's email:
Those things that you control are your goals. Those things that
depend on ANYONE else but you are hopes, dreams, fantasies, or
expectations, and it's important that you realize that they can
NEVER become goals, no matter what you do.
If you do not control the means for creating and defining your
own success, you are embracing fantasy.
I couldn't help but think about my own situation with job hunting and such. I think I need to print these words out and work on setting goals rather than expectations in the job hunt. Maybe that'll help.
