Secluded, private spot in the woods [afternoon, prior to newsletter meeting] [NFB]

Rory had picked a very shady spot today and was lying on her back, fanning herself with a book and stretching out her feet in the hopes that they'd feel a little better after her workshop that morning.

And, naturally, she was waiting for someone. Why else would she hang out in the woods when she had an air-conditioned cabin?

Anakin ran a fingertip down Rory's cheek. "I trust you," he said, looking into her eyes. "You wouldn't hurt me like that."

Rory gave him a soft smile. "And then I got hurt just as badly as I hurt both of them - probably worse, actually, but I deserved it if we're thinking karmically. I'm overidentifying with the whole situation and just want to make Molly feel better. And get Cam to hurry up and figure it out and stop messing with her."

"Molly seems pretty certain that they're staying with the friendship thing," Anakin said, linking his fingers through Rory's. "And she's trying very hard to pretend that she's okay with that."

"Poor Molly. That's so hard, being friends with someone when you really want to be more," Rory said softly, scooting closer. "I remember that much from a slightly more recent experience."

Anakin squeezed her fingers. "Me too."

"I told Molly I wouldn't get mad at Cam," she said softly, moving to rest her head on his shoulder. "And she said I could talk to you about it, but I wasn't going to say anything until you brought it up. It's not my business, much as I might have an opinion."

"I didn't tell Molly I wouldn't get mad at Cam," Anakin said, wrapping his arm around Rory's waist. "Because I am, and I will continue to be."

"I was pretty mean. I mean, for me and considering my medium was a whiteboard," she said. "She was really, really upset when I was talking to her. No one gets to make Molly sad like that."

"Exactly," Anakin said firmly. "And I warned Cam about pulling this kind of crap earlier. Unacceptable."

"You did?" Rory asked. "I gave up on trying to reason with him and stayed out of it until Molly brought it up when we moved into the cabins."

"It was at the beginning of the summer when they began this on-again off-again dance of ridiculousness," Anakin said, shrugging. "I warned Blair. It seemed hypocritical not to offer that same courtesy to Cameron, too."

"To be fair, we did our own ridiculous on-again off-again thing awhile ago," Rory pointed out.

Anakin pressed his lips together. "Never let it be said that I can't admit to my own ridiculousness," he replied.

He squeezed Rory's fingers again. "I'm sorry about that. Still. Always."

Rory sighed and laid down so her head was in his lap. "It's okay," she said softly, playing with his fingers. "It was at least half my fault. And it wasn't half as bad as this. I mean, I at least know you love me and you likewise know I love you and we're all clear on where the relationship stands and how we feel. Cam and Molly are still having issues with that part."
