Skywalker Apartment [Friday evening]

Feb 20, 2015 13:57

This week had been maybe not Rory's favorite.

Like, on the one hand, you know what was nice? Having a rapturously attentive husband who was under the influence of sex pollen, that's what. But that whole thing got a lot less cute when she wasn't nineteen anymore, and they had two small kids who were prone to knocking on the bedroom door at really ( Read more... )

Yes, the past week had been... unpleasant. Considering what he had heard on the radio, Obi-Wan supposed he was lucky to know the dispersal techniques he did, or it might have been a rather more awkward affair than simply spending the whole time meditating.

This, on the other hand... well, this stirred up a kernel of anxiety in his heart. Not for anything to do with the pollen, which had passed... but the situation between him and Anakin was still fragile, and he had no wish to inflict a hint of it on Anakin's family.

(Even if he did worry for them, from time to time.)

None of this was visible in his expression as he entered, mind you. He was smiling politely as he entered, sweeping the room in search of the hostess. "Hello there."

"Oh, hi!" And cue Rory rushing over to offer out her hand, grinning and trying not to be too ungainly about the whole thing. "Hi! Welcome! I'm Rory, it's so nice to meet you -- you look just how I remembered!"

Well, so much for not being ungainly or making it weird. (But seriously, Jaye was going to be so jealous.)

"Sorry, that's probably weird. But hi!"

"I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage," Obi-Wan said wryly. "As this is the first time I am seeing you. Though I have been told my fair share already."

Anakin talking about Rory so much would have been adorable had Obi-Wan not had such vivid memories of Padmé's last days.

Her hand was taken and shaken regardless.

"I hope it's mostly good things," Rory replied brightly. Not that she imagined that Anakin was probably complaining about her to Obi-Wan of all people, but, you know. Sometimes she stole his mousse. Every marriage has its trials.

"If it helps, I met the other-you...oh, eight years ago? Nine? And it was under less comfortable circumstances," she added, when she felt a slight tugging on her dress.

"...and this is Juliet," she said, locating the source of the tugging -- Juliet was not usually prone to shyness, naturally, but she had her moments, and was peeking around her mother's waist curiously.

She was also, of course, dressed like the queen from that stupid movie about the cold. Rory was really kind over over all of that, but clearly her kindergartener wasn't.

"It's all good things. Not to worry," Obi-Wan said.

But the little girl was distracting him, and it showed. He didn't squat, but he did lean down just a little bit so he might not seem like such an enormous presence. (He was shorter than Anakin by far, but still far larger than a little girl.) "Hello, Juliet," he said. "Nice to meet you. That's a nice dress."

Rory actually side-stepped so Juliet couldn't hide behind her, though Juliet still clung to her mother's skirt with one hand. Don't you dare think you were going anywhere, Rory, you were clearly shackled here for the moment.

"Hi," Juliet whispered, her hand curling into a little fist by her mouth just out of habit.

"Use your manners, Juliet," Rory reminded her gently. "Say, 'It's nice to meet you, Master Kenobi.'"

"S'nice to meet you Masternobi," Juliet mumbled, though she was looking a little less intimidated, at least. "You're Daddy's friend?"

"Your daddy is a very old friend of mine, yes," Obi-Wan confirmed. His mouth quirked into a hint of a smile. "Back when he was almost as small as you were."

Just a whole lot more precocious...

"Nuh uh!" Juliet protested with a giggle, forgetting her shyness for a moment to look at Obi-Wan in shock. Because it was impossible to reconcile the idea that these very big people had once been little, and Daddy had obviously never been little. "Really?"

"Yeah huh," Rory murmured, gently detaching Juliet's little hand from her skirt. She wasn't going to abandon her just yet, but if she could nuh-uh then she could be a big girl about this.

"Really," Obi-Wan confirmed. He held his hand up. "He was about this tall," he said, "And his hair was much less nice than yours."

Making fun of Anakin's hair was a long and fruitful tradition, thank you.

Juliet, who had inherited her father's curls but thankfully not quite their unruliness, giggled even more.

"Were you little too?" she wondered, because that made sense to her. People were little, and then they grew up.

And Rory eased a liiiiiittle bit further away, going to take Christopher from Anakin now that he was wearing pants. (It had been a prerequisite.)

"Not as little as he was," Obi-Wan said, smiling a bit. "But littler than I am now." And more overtly sarcastic and fed up with everything.
