Angelina doesn’t sleep well these days. Today she wakes with a jolt and a headache; for once it doesn’t have anything to do with firewhiskey, even though eggnog spiked with it was repeatedly pushed into her hands last night. She opens her eyes and doesn’t bother looking at the man sleeping next to her. No point.
She’s gotten good at getting dressed quickly these days. Easier to slip out unnoticed that way. She shuts the door quietly; hurries into the frosty dawn. Has to choke back...something.
The man whose house she’s left isn’t Fred. No one ever will be.
