It's Baaack!

We return.

We had a lovely time away; fishing was excellent!

Our good friend, Frank (Byron's best friend since 5 years of age) came down and joined us for a day and a half.  He's always fun to have around and, amazingly, it was the first time we had ever fished together.  I must say, I prefer fishing with my husband.  Frank is very competitive and didn't like it very well when I was out-fishing him.  =D  Byron is always much more gracious when I always out-fish him.  ;)

The lake we stayed on is just beyond beautiful and teeming with bass and blue gill.  The villa we rented is very nice, but lacks many of the comforts of home.  So, I pack nearly half of my kitchen and linens and various other "necessities" of life.  =D  Actually, we have gotten quite smart about it all and have purchased huge rubber maid boxes to pack everything in for ease of transport.

The fishing was only good in the very early mornings and in the evening.  We would get up horribly early to head out and fish until about 9 a.m.  Then we would head in for a "late" breakfast.  My favorite was the day I made French Toast with a beautiful artisan bread sliced really thick, seasoned with orange zest and extract, cinnamon and nutmeg which I topped with some freshly macerated strawberries, powdered sugar and some real maple syrup.  Biscuits and "sawmill" gravy are a favorite too...nom, nom...breakfast is good!  We rarely ever eat it while at home.

Mostly during the day, we just lounged around.  I read an excellent book, The Lady Elizabeth, by Alison Weir.  It is an historic fiction of the early life of Elizabeth I.  The story began when Elizabeth was 2 years old and ended the day that Queen Mary died, making her Queen.  It was an excellent book and it made me want to read more of Alison Weir's work.  The Life of Elizabeth I may have to be the first, since it likely begins where this one left off, although it was written prior.

In the evening, we would head out to fish again until dark.  Then, it was time for more food.  I was the grill meister and did very well using charcoal, even though we don't have a charcoal grill at home.  I did a chili/lime marinade for chicken one night that was superb!  I need to post that on the blog at some point.

All in all, it couldn't have been a more perfect outing.  I am, as always, happy to be home.

Although, the AC in my house seems to be not working very well and that really sucks (making this the first "whine" post since changing my journal).
