And now for my monthly update! Oh, I kid. Actually, it occurred to me today that I could just fork out $7 for two months-worth of a paid account, and actually want to return to lj once in a while. The problem, I found, with not having a paid account was that for some reason those snap popups would not close for me, and they would cover up my friends' entries, and since I couldn't read anything anyway, I gave up.
But I've paid up through the beginning of June now, and this is where I am, and this is where I will stay. (I even took down the Christmas theme!) I'll have to renew in June, too, since that's the month of my wedding, and if last month taught me anything it's that I'm going to need a place to vent, because wedding planning sucks dirty bricks. At that point, actually, I should probably go permanent, but it may have to wait until some of the dust has settled.
For those who haven't yet heard, through me or the grapevine, this is the current (admittedly vague) timeline of my future:
Michael comes in tomorrow at 6am. He's here until the 13th. During this time, we will run around like headless chickens, accommodating everyone's schedules, trying to be an actual couple for the week and a half we have before we meet again in June and marry, and trying to plan the wedding together so I don't end up throwing myself in front of a bus. At least we get to go taste cupcakes on Saturday.
The wedding itself is scheduled for Sunday, June 28th. It's a morning ceremony, because when you try to plan a wedding three months in advance, Sunday morning is what you get, but we can't really complain because we did get the venue that we both really wanted: Black Bear Crossings, commonly called the Como Lakeside Pavillion. This venue, my dress, and the bridesmaids' dresses are about the only things we've nailed down at this point, so I've learned to keep a healthy dose of Excedrin with me at all times these days.
Anyone remember ever trying to get me to name a place to go out to eat, and finding yourself saying 'screw it' and picking a place yourself? Imagine that degree of indecisiveness on its most epic level.
Since the wedding is the weekend before CONvergence, we'll be spending only a few days up north (in a cottage at Spicer Castle, a cute little B&B) before driving back down for CON, which we can't miss because a) it's CON, and b) it's where we met.
Michael has at most 2 weeks for leave, so he'll be returning to Hawaii shortly after CON, and leaving me here. It is yet to be determined whether or not I will be able to stay with St. Kate's through July, since I don't really have enough vacation time for all this wedding nonsense, and I don't know if they're willing to give me... kind of a lot of unpaid leave. Either way, it is likely that I will remain in Minnesota for most of July (which works out, since my lease is up July 31st). Michael has to take our marriage papers back to file for command sponsorship from the base. Once that is processed, the Army pays to have me hauled out of here, so...
I'm moving to Hawaii in late July or early August. Michael is only stationed there until the end of January, so my stay off-continent is about as temporary as my stint in France, and I intend to soak up all the fresh fruit and sushi I can conquer. After that, he is scheduled for a 17 week training program. The Army doesn't sponsor spouses and dependents for under 20 weeks, so we haven't decided where I'll go from there. Either we'll foot the bill and rent an apartment out-of-pocket, or I'll be staying with my parents starting in February of next year. Once the training period (which is in Georgia) is over, we don't know where he'll be assigned. He requested the continental US, though, in the hopes of being able to road trip home more frequently. There are a lot of fine points to living in Hawaii, I imagine, but access to home is not one of them. Some of the states I've heard mentioned are Kentucky (woo,
cyberwuzzle!), Tennessee, and Maryland, but we'll see. We could end up in Tokyo, we don't really know.
He's out in 2014. And that is when we come home for good.
I really, really need to get back on Project 365, which has been... intermittent at best throughout March. This will definitely be a year to document.
