Lovely Rita

So there's this whirling vortex of nasty that's supposedly coming up the gulf right into Houston this week. This calls for not only evacuation of headquarters but also temporary displacement. If the storm lingers like it ought to, the house could suffer a bit of flooding damage if not more. We don't exactly have methods to block the windows but I hope we'll be able to do something to protect the bedrooms, especially. I know I won't be able to take most of my things but I'm hoping to at least take my memories with me should things go awry. I've never been in a situation like this before, so I'm extremely unnerved. I've already packed up the files on my computer and I'm going to burn them to a data CD. My dad and I are going to fetch supplies and we're planning to evacuate up north by tomorrow.

The whole thing caught me by surprise. School is closed for the rest of the week and I have no idea about the condition our neighborhood will be in by the time we come back (hopefully Monday). I'm a bit scared, a bit cynical. You can't prevent nature from beating you up, but you can build cities above sea-level. I wouldn't have minded a town a bit further from the coast - it's not like I go to the beach anyway.

And then we have our valuables downstairs to worry about. We're going to take Sandy in her crate and the rest of the furniture I could care less about. Appa should take his technical/medical whatevers in case we need it and I'm still worried about Mrs. Margo's piano, which I've been borrowing for almost a year. Our house should be high enough to resist flooding but I'm still worried about the windows which are largely open to the outside. I regret the time I didn't spend in my room now.

I surprisingly don't have too much more to write because I don't even know what's going through my head. Stay safe, all of you. My cell is 281-796-2358 - keep in touch. I will have internet since my mom is taking her laptop and wireless card. Love you guys. Take care.
